Anyone know how to get the web cam working on the 17x? Or should I say the best/cleanest way to get it working.

I'm not running Command Center and don't plan on it.

I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7. I did a quick search on my system last night, but didn't have too much time... I couldn't find anything loaded showing my web cam...?

    Thanks

I installed the driver off the site for the M17xr1 and there is also the driver/app on the resource cd. I installed the youcam app on the r2 from resource disk and my web cam is working fine.

Ok, I looked on my resource DVD and there isn't a web cam driver, but there is the Youcam app.

I checked Dell on-line with my service tag and there isn't a web cam driver. I searched the 17x R1 and there is a Creative web cam driver, but it says it's for Vista 64. I loaded it anyway and got an error that there was an "error" while loading the driver. I restarted and loaded Youcam app which loaded properly, but it says there's no video device attached to the computer.

Any ideas? How come Dell doesn't provide a driver for the R2. I really don't want to load Command Center.

How come the web cam doesn't show up under "device manager"?

Are you running Command Center? I think Command Center automatically loads the web cam driver for its "sense" app.

Yeah, I really don't want to run CC. I don't have a use for it. It's just another app to run and clutter my system in my eyes.

Hard to believe there's not a web cam driver out there for the R2....?

Well I feel stupid. Function key + F9 enables camera through W7. W7 loads drivers automatically. Once you hit those keys it shows up in Device Manager too.
