I recently got the m17x and have been using it for a while. When I put in a disc in the optical drive, I get this rough clicking noise for about 10 seconds while its slowly spinning, and after that its normal. Should I worry about this??

    Thanks in advance

I would say if it was all discs then i would be concerned but since its only a few, dont sweat it . You have a warranty if it breaks down either way .

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine will click on dirty discs, some CD's, some DVD's with odd Copy Protection Schemes as if it's trying to find the starting point for the volume.

Hell, with my fav. DVD backup program running Transporter3 actually never stopped clicking as it just couldn't find where to begin. DVD actually played fine tho.

IF it were every DVD/CD then you'd probably have an issue.

Ok dont want to scare you. But I had a problem on my wii(slot loaded also) And I had to get the laser replaced because it was making a clicking sound. Granted that happened to every disc. May not even be applicable to the laptop. Sorry if this scares you. Apparently its not that hard to replace though, they did it really quickly for me.

Nope that click is usually it trying to find the beginning of the disk and having a hard time doing so , DVDs and CDs change all the time and have different copy protections on them etc which over the years have made it hard for one drive to read everything all the time without some issues.
