Well I am sad to say. M15x will be returned to AW.

Well everyone it has been a blast, learning and speaking with all of you on this forum.

Although I have come to the end of the line with my system. The BIOS update hasn't resolved my GPU downclocking issue. My CPU continues to downclock and I was promised replacement parts back on March 4th, 2008. And I have still not recieved or have been given a straight answer has to what is going on.

I strongly feel these issues will continue to plague many M15x owners for a long time to come. I just hope for all those that are left with this system they do resolve the problems and you aren't left with a 4k conversation piece.

    RIP M15x.

    Hey Chaz,

I have an XPS 1530 on order for my wife. I think I iwll just try that one out for a bit. But I am thinking it will be the new Sager 15.4" when it is released.

I truly truly wanted to love my M15x, I just can't handle the CS. And if they truly do a 200 point inspection, then it must be carried out blind garden gnomes. The way this downclcoking issue has been wide spread, strenghtens my assumption this system was never fully tested by gamers for gamers. I think it was rushed out the door and that it was a known issue. Hence the delay in the M17x. I truly hop eyou all get it worked out and I iwll be keepoing an eye on things to see how it all unfolds. And who knows maybe if they get things sorted I may repurchase another M15x. (Although highly unlikely)

Clev, the sager units with the 8800m GTX are sufferening for similar issues. Although not the downclocking many sager users are extremely upset with Driver support. As are M15x users. Latest drivers could really open up this notebook and unleash some serious gaming performance.

I am going to head that way now and see how things are in the Sager Camp. Althought to be honest my Dell XPS systems never gave me issues. It was a ton to lug around but it held up to Helicopters/Bush Planes and global travel.

And when ever I pushed the power button it fired right up. I just wish they would make a 15.4" model with the 8800m gtx.

The Sager sounds like a good choice; it is based on the new Montevina platform so you will have to wait for that to arrive first. A few months . . .

Lol - I do my best to be objective. In my objective analysis, the AW m15x is one of the best gaming notebooks on the market and unrivaled in the 15.4" segment at this time. I avoid recommending products that aren't out yet simply because I haven't tested them (I tend to rely on my own personal experience over anything else) - you've already been through the m15x though so there is little else to suggest. :)

If I understood correctly the driver Issue with the 8800M GTX can`t be resolved by the nb-manufacturers as long NVIDIA doesn`t provide a new one.

A guy from NV posted about the driver issue here on the forum stating just that.

I guess NV is still struggeling with the downclocking (driverwise, not due to overheating) problem. I can`t find the post atm though...

    @topic

I am sorry that you were disappointed by AW. I hope for the sake of all m15x owners that AW starts to rethink its working policy towards its customers...

As I have canceled my order of the m15x and am looking for a substitute as well atm I`d like to share my findings:

If you are looking for a performance nb which combines power and portability there is no alternative to the m15x atm. The new Sager might be who knows.

If you are mainly in for the gaming there are plenty of alternatives though. First would be the dell XPS-series. I could get a XPS1730 SLI for almost same price as the m15x. I know, its pretty ugly (imho), but it does its job and as far as I know most users are happy with it.

The next are the Clevo Barebones. Sager&co
I opted for a Sager because performance wise they are on par with the m15x costing only two thirds of an m15x (depending on config).

But I guess you knew all thjat already newfiejudd...

the new sager is supposedly taking preorders on April 1st so a couple months and we will see, i don't know if all the issues are out with the m15x im going to get it because of the smartbay system =] Sager is a really good company though it will be a tough choice for me.

Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel going through CS. Just imagine having to send the computer three times (this is what I'm going through at the moment.) I just wish it was over. But, at least they are trying to fix the lappy. Don't know if they will ever resolve the problems with their 15" lappys...The Dell m1530 seems awesome, you should go for it! :)

gotta say , the AW still looks way better than the new clevo 15"
maybe in a couple of months everything will be ok

chaz' review was very detailed and just about right.
I can't help thinking that customer service to reviewers might be just a tad better than your average joe's

I strongly advise you to make sure it is being sent to the correct facility, back when I had a m9750 and sent it in for repairs it went to the wrong facility and sat there for over a week.

Hey BOFH1971 I am sorry that they passed you over. I seriously was about to call it toast and move on with something else, but they made a deal that I will hold them to as it is in writing. Also I think my issues were made worse because they had me confused with a UK buyer. So who knows maybe somebody in the UK is laughing at the fact they got a new CPU(X9000), heathsink and FAN. LMAO

After 2 kids I guess I have finally learnt to relax and be patient. LOL.

lol I dont have a problem being patient, but I do have a problem with bad customer service :)

know all about kids, one of ours has now left home, and the other one starts University later this year.

empty house, less gaming pals, booo!

from what I read on these forums, US support is far better than UK support
