I installed windows 7 64 bit today and was typing on word 2007 when everything just shut down... I now have no power or anything. It won't come on and there are no blinking lights. It has always run hot for me... I guess I now have a $2,300 paperweight. I'm upset b/c I'm just past a year of ownership and I don't abuse my laptops. Most of the time, it sits on a cooling station with fans, but it still ran hot. So, something is fried I'm guessing?

I don't want to badmout alienware yet b/c it just happened... but I'm now typing on an HP that hasn't given me one problem in my 3.5 years of hard use and ownership. Come on, guys.

So you extend warranty first, sit tight for a few days then call them to tell that your lappy is just dead the day before or what :p

And please use the "m" instead of "M". I was kinda scary seeing thread with title like this because it makes me think we start having problem with the new version :D

Ok this is the frist gen laptop right. Take out the 8700gt gpu and start it up and see if the intergraded gpu will boot it up. If it dose you need a new gpu If not it was something else.

Haha, sorry to panic you. :)

Would a dead GPU keep any type of power up from happening at all? I'm not getting anything when I push the power button. I know I could use the onboard video, but I didn't think I've ever had an add-on GPU completely keep power up from happening...

No it shouldn't. No POST is a very bad thing. It mostly means there is an issue with your motherboard. Take out your battery and your CMOS battery (if you can find it) overnight, and try powering it on with everything back in the next morning.

Or, you can remove the AC adapter AND the battery, hold down the power button for approximately 15 seconds. Put the battery back in, plug in the AC adapter, and see if it powers on.

Gotcha. Thanks, guys. I'll give it a try and get back to you. I was excited to upgrade to win 7, so I'm bummed this has happened. Might be time to upgrade the GPU... ;)

Well, I removed the battery, waited awhile, and now it boots up when it's plugged in, but I got the BSD, so I had to do a system restore, but now it works. I just have it running off the AC adapter.

Do you think it might be the battery, then?
