they most probably won't upgrade the m15x to montevina. it'd be far too much new R&D. my guess is is that they'll bring out a new, montevina-based (possibly with nehalem) laptop sometime in 09.

There will always be something new coming out, and you'll probably be waiting for a while. Whizzo's right, they're probably preparing for a new system with Montevina, but it won't be out for a while.
I'd recommend finding a good deal on the M15x and then be happy you saved money, got the laptop sooner, and didn't waste your time and money waiting forever for Montevina. Just my 2c :)

Well AW doesn't have a certain time of year as far as I have seen... with Montevina and Windows 7 coming, it may be a while. But really it is anyone's guess...

Putting it simply, they only update when they have the next generation of hardware to make their lineups better. :)

well i don't think they'll release it too early, cuz that would cut into the m15x and m17x sales... so probably end of Q2, Q3, something like that.

We normally do not have dates or time set when releasing our products however we do our best to make them available before or after holidays and when we feel it is reliable.

I saw it somewhere on this forum, but the m15x in black isn't going to come out. The pictures you saw were actually a graphical mistake. This was confirmed by a representative. However, I imagine that if demand gets high enough, it may be taken into consideration.

They said they where coming out when the new aliennetwork video came out in june however they seemed to have canned that network video compleatly and now have the next one in august ...

ALienware have let me down the last time .. ill prob end up getting a Voodoo or some quadcore notebook.. Bad job alienware to say its coming and leave people on the line.

    Alienware just got pwned.

But seriously, is it just me that thinks it's bordering on arrogance to come out on a consumer-based forum and say "and when we feel it is reliable" in the context of the m15x which is hardly renowned for its reliability?

I mean, you can get away with that on a billboard slogan or the like, where no-one can challenge you, but to say it on a forum where there are so many direct messages from people complaining about the very same product??

    Bewildering.

    Petrov.

I don't know about there being a new laptop next year, Alienware kept the M5500 for two years. Let's just hope we get a 9800M GTX or a 9900M GTX in this generation's m15x and Penryn will be fine.

ahhaha ... power to you bro !

anyway, if you want to wait, be prepared to wait atleast 8-12 months for the new model... and another 3-4 months before they get their stuff straightened out ... so INMHO if you wanna buy AW, buy it now...

theyr always a step behind the rest of the market so doesnt make sense in waiting .... by the time the monteniva based laptop is released, ther'll be something new-er on the horizon...

I don't think NVIDIA is going to release the 200 series for notebooks. If they do, it'll be really overpriced with only a little extra performance over the 9800M GTX (or the 9900M GTX if it comes out).

Yeah Sorry mate but, it's true.

I emailed them and got told that they are keeping the silver for the m15x and the black for the m17x... they might add black to the m15x at a later date but......

If you want black i suggest you go for the m17x...

I seriously would like (another) official clarification :(
Well if a later date means in Sept then maybe I can forgive them for saying this now..
Otherwise I'm going to have to start staring at the silver to get myself to like it.. That's my last resort though !!

The graphical error being mentioned is about the PC Gamer showing a black m15x. We're still working to release a black m15x for our customers. Unfortunately, we do not have a projected release time.

We understand many of you are waiting for a new m15x chassis color (black) and we'll be sure to keep you all up to date on any developments.

that would qualify as a new chassis, and AW_Armando specifically pointed out he meant a new color, not a new chassis... so no, probably not.

I have just made an executive decision to not buy the m15x, I'm just going to stick to gaming on my 360 for now, and I don't NEED a laptop at the moment, so perhaps if the next Alienware is good enough I'll look into it.

Video cards and processors are at their "prime". A 2.4GHz processor should last you a good while. The 8800M GTX can run Crysis on all high, and two years from now you can expect it to max out every game that isn't a graphic showcase (like Crysis was). The 9800M GTX and the next series probably won't be as big a speed bump as the 7950M GTX to the 8800M GTX. Every year the Core 2 Duos are just getting more and more outdated, they'll probably max out at around 3.0GHz. The Core 2 Quad mobile processor is coming out at the end of the year, but that'll cost $1k+ when it comes out. Just saying.

new AW notebooks? dude, they just released two! they'd be cutting into their own flesh if they brought out any new laptops for at least a year, more like one and a half, or even two.
