Correction got myself a 970M upgrade kit for my M17x R4 which is being delivered by Fedex and is somewhere in Memphis or just left Memphis, home of Elvis..
+ a Notepal U3+ which is somewhere in the damm post being delivered by hermes, most useless courier in the UK....
Hopefully both arrive on Monday although i really doubt the Noepal U3+ will..reborn2003 and Mr. Fox like this. -
Oh yeah, I almost forgot that I ordered a second U3 cooler, another set of three 85 CFM 120MM fans, filters and fan controller for replacing the U3 stock fans. That way the R1 and R2 won't have to share any more. Should have the U3 Plus on Monday, but no telling on the fan stuff from NewEgg because they have gotten to be slower than a 10-year itch on shipping, especially when they use that morphodite hybrid setup that uses FedEx or DHL to the local post office and then hand off to USPS.
Will be like this when it's done. The 15 CFM stock USB-powered fans are worthless. Now I'll have 2 sets of them in my junk drawer, LOL.Ashtrix, cedargreen and TomJGX like this. -

Brother Tom, everything just plugs in. No soldering or shrink tubing. I used two-sided exterior grade rubber mounting tape to attach the fan controller to the rear lower crossbar on the U3 and a few zip ties to bind up the extra wire length. Take a closer look at the photos. Here are the parts you need to order:
SilenX IXA-FCEX Controller, Panel - Newegg.com
Rosewill RFX-120 120mm Case Fan - Newegg.com
Rosewill RFT-120 Case Accessory - Newegg.com
Of course, the main thing is the fan controller. The filters are optional (but work really well at helping to keep the laptop guts clean and dust-free) and you can use any 120MM fans you wish. The main thing is to get 85 CFM or higher because the surface of the cooler blocks about 50% of the air flow. (This is the case with almost every cooler, but the U3 is impossible to beat on aesthetics and build quality.)
I will take a few more photos after the parts get here.Ashtrix, Optimistic Prime and TomJGX like this. -

I got a mSata to install my OS and made some Win8 vs Win7 benchmarks and after 3 hours of benchmarks I ended installing Win7 with some heavy mods to make it work like Win8. I still miss my start menu screen :\

Same goes here, the U3+ I cannot buy it here as the price is 2x, I would be getting that as a new year gift

are there any better then stock fans for he GPU's ? I know there is certainly for the cpu's but I've not noticed any for the GPU's that are more then 4-5CFM unlike the cpu's all having 10-11 CFM

My Alienware got a nice box for Christmas and a "Happy Holidays" sticker. It's taking a trip.

Actually got both my 970M and Notepal U3... Not liking playing at an angle so probably Notepal U3 is being returned..

Well, I got the parts and the Notepal U3 Plus. I wish I had purchased the older style U3 instead. The Plus version isn't designed as well. I had to do my fan mod differently because of the undesirable design changes. There are fewer holes and the outer fans no longer accommodate all four screws. The back plane area is also made differently and I could not place the fan controller where I wanted it.
Here is the new design...

Versus the older (better) design...

EDIT: would like to get a nzxt sentry 3 to control the fans but the fact that it's an internal bay device it has no case for it.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015Mr. Fox likes this. -
