I've been lurking around these forums for a while and I'm in the market for a new 17". I've noticed that OCZ and Maingear are going to be releasing their new Centrino and Crossfire systems. Now, I've been a customer with Alienware for over 3 years. I went from an Area-51 766 to an m9700, both have served me great. What do you guys think Alienware will have in store for us next? I'm curious as to what anyone may have heard or what you think is possble?
Do you think Alienware will do this sort of platform too? I found it kinda funny that the new OCZ looks like their 9750![]()

i think the m17x will stay around for another year or so on SR... its just starting to get shipped.
Alienware is doing a Refresh on its m15x line atm with all the Breed Hype.. so wait n c.. if Alienware make the m15x a Centrino2 laptop with the upgrade then u could prob expect the same for the m17x.. i however think that the Breed teaser is just going to be for new GFX cards and case colors. -
I don't think we'll be seeing any new Alienware gaming notebooks for at least a year or two. maybe something small like the new voodoo envy, but i think alienware has invested too much R&D in the m15x and m17x to be bringing out new models already.
-
Only important thing for AW atm is to drop the price. Since the sager/clevo equivalents (and with new tech) are way cheaper that AW laptops.
-
I think they are going to be releasing a new 15". What a way to slip stream a better case for the M15x, and not have to repair any of the older systems. Think about it for a second.
They know the current case design isn't holding up so well. So with the launch of Monte they can slipstream in a new redesigned case that addresses all the problems. And the current M15x users will still be left with a busted case, but in return AW can address the issues with the case and slowly try and turn their public image around. I almost think it's brilliant. New systems get fixed and they will have NO responsibility to recall any of the older M15x's for a design flaw. All they will have to tell anyone is that the new M15x is based upon Monte and does not reflect the older SR M15x.
It's a brilliant and completely plausible exercise in a quick switcharoo. -
I think they should release a 13/14 inch notebook. Case colors would be nice perhaps (though with all these lights black is really the only good option besides silver) biggest thing is probably pricing and working on service/reliability
Curious to see what happens with this breed thing I think its just marketing for the current lineup but.... -
I think they will announce some Montineva laptops around Xmas, and maybe start shipping them in the US next April. And July in the UK.
-
Even if AW launches a Montevina based laptop, they still have the price problem.... xotic/pn are way too cheaper to make any "montevina" AW laptop attractive for end users.
-
in australia, alienware is the most expensive brand you can get :\
-
Well, that was when they had the best gaming (most powerful) notebook around....
-
One fact that most people forget is Your only ontop untel someone beats you. I hear alot of people going clevo, clevo and clevo. Fact is Clevo will be faster Untel the new thing comes out.
Could it be Alienware setting up a 15.4 Inch notebook that can overclock or have the newer quad core with the fastest gpu.
It seems we are in a pendulum game and right now I think we are almost even. Untel we get some stats on the Clevo and M15X or M17X. Plus Features. No I am not talking about the back lighting keyboard. I am talking about the Smart bay for M15X and M17X Which both support extra batterys, Extra hard drives and so on. -
Pendulum or not. What will AW do for current M15x owners who are experiencing issues still.
I really think financially the M15x has hit them HARD, and to regain that gaming superiority they claim to have they need something wild and they need it soon. Before more and more people are turned away to the competition. -
22" laptop with Radeon HD4870, yay! dont forget Nahalem processor.
-
if you are getting a 22 inch laptop you minus will get a desktop. a 22 inch desktop and you will just throw portability out the window. isnt the biggest only 20.1 or something like that. at least i can some how carry that around if i really did get a 20 inch. a 22 inch would be sitting on my desk all day... i think AW is smart enough to know 22 inch wont sell well.
since they like being the industry first i guess a 22 inch is a first though. -
I don't even think their 19" sold that well.
-
largest i've seen is that 20" xps that dell sells and i'm not sure how good that does, I think they might do a 13" and discontinue the 9750 so people who want a 17" will buy the m17x.
-
They are still selling the m9750 which is weird. They are trying clearly to push the last bit of them out the door. -
i would expect AW to come out with a 13" probably..something more affordable perhaps
-
Question there newfiejudd. How many people have not had any problems with the M15X? That would show us ture facts. The people who are playing game and such and having fun are not here complaining about issue becuse they dont have them.
-
And anything smaller then a 15 is nothing but an oversized PDA...
that said - would be kewl if they did make a 13 - but i really would not hold your breath over that. -
-
not so sure...
i looked at em - i think for a 13 they are nice looking, but honest, i think it stops there.
i think they will do good for about a yr as far as capabilities, but i bet they get outdated faster with little or no upgradability.
just my .02 -
That was a joke. I wasnt serious! -
eh, that HP HDX has a 20.1" screen and it's already basically unusable as a notebook simply because it's not portable anymore. 22" would be insane.
-
-
Guess it will one with 4870 x 2 Crossfire cards
in the next few months -
nooooo the m17 is going to have the option of the 3870's or the 4870's there going to come out with a 15 inch ati laptop with a 4850 or 4870 in it
-
I'm pretty sure they'd update that M15x sometime soon to something similar to their M17. As the current M15x is just a smaller M17x.
-
And the dv5t is just a smaller dv7t. And the Dell Studio 15 is just a smaller Studio 17. And an Apple MacBook Pro 15" is just a smaller MacBook Pro 17".....

AntiSocialHermit Notebook Enthusiast
From the problems I have read on here recently, what is next for Alienware is a mass hiring for the open management positions in Quality Assurance and Customer Service.
-
i really hope they start to get LED Backlit screens for any of their notebooks..
-
i believe that the future is the new i7 cores, intel is probably working on a mobile version, and with the economy, heavy investment in R&D on a new platfrom whether it be desktop or laptop (keep in mind that development in desktops is a key in alienware as well) is a risk at the moment.
Alienware has already taken a step by introducing 64 bit systems (FINALLY)
Next would be in my mind to better integrate their systems with the hardware/software(this is my wish), and possibly to find new graphics cards to work with their mobile systems.
ALSO Windows 7 is coming out in July, so integration with that is also key, so for this year, all I'm predicting is some hardware changes (like that 8800GTX change to the 9800 fiasco) and integrating their systems with Windows 7.
Resources need to be channeled with caution at this time until this storm (the economy, we can't forget that Alienware is owned by Dell) passes. -
can't wait to get windows 7 and 64bit on my m15x! (I tried the beta which caused some troubles) definetly seems faster. Yeah if I was AW I'd take it easy for awhile and focus on sales and support with minor tweaks and improvements to the current machines
-
theres always something new .....lol i just want my 4870's hahahahahaha who know how anythign gonna turn out AW is not gonna be churning out new stuff and investing in this economey ....not many people can still afford a 3000 dollar laptop
-
-
i was thinking the same thing...........har har har wish it did though
better then the memory hog vista but good luck getting AW to support 64bit win 7 even though its the same stuff as 64 bit vista
What do you think is next for Alienware?
