I have this fluid that I used on my m15x and I am no thriled with the results, even though it said it was specifically made for laptop screens.

Whatdo you guys use on your M17x? Or others (M17) as well?

If there are smudges or hard residue that needs a little bit more effort to remove, you can use a bit of citrus cleaner diluted with water to clean your screen.

It's glass, so go with whatever makes you feel happy... Warm water and a little vinegar would do the trick if it's very greasy...

    I use ammonia-based glass cleaners ahahaha....no just kidding - don't do that!

I simply use pure water and a soft cloth. Works wonders and don't cost a lot....

The suggestion of the mircrofiber cloth is excellent. But it should be moist, not damp. And never spray anything directly on your laptop. Also, for best results, never use harsh chemical to clean it. I use Multi-Surfact Pledge. It's expensive, but a little goes a long way. So use it sparingly.

I just use damp tissues and then wipe off the residue with dry tissue. Usually works well.

    Hi Blazertrek50,

    Im glad to say I use the best cleaning sloution in the world....the E-cloth;

    http://www.e-cloth.com/

Ive never seen anything like it. When Im depressed I cheer myself up by cleaning my M17 with the E-cloth and it makes me happy!

As the guys said one of the cloth is a special microfibre cloth and you jus damp it with warm water and wipe down your notebook....the other cloth buffs it up and boy does it buff up.....Just like the day you took it out of the box. Dont ask me how it does it.

They are not expensive either. about £7 for the 2 cloths. Choose the glass cleaning cloths(dont worry you can use them on anything, I use mine to clean my big TV as well and the coffee table)

Bad idea. The ammonia in the Windex slowly etches the display. Over time, the display will start looking foggy.

To clean I use my fingers directly on the screen, especially after eating greasy potato chips. Gives it a more natural look.

No. I use that cloth that came in with a pair of sunglasses. Forgot what is called.

I used strongbow once :), accidently 'cleaned' the keyboard and insides with it too...nearly cried.
Second horror story was using some lcd display wipes, which scratched it up a bit, now I just use microfibre cloth/kitchen roll.

Here's an article I found that might give you something to think about:

    Your laptop

You’re the only one who uses it, so how dirty can it be? In a word: filthy. A study by researchers at the University of North Carolina Health Care System found that keyboards were loaded with germs.
Even more disgusting, the average public toilet bowl contains 41 germs per square inch. The average personal keyboard? Some 21,000 germs per square inch. “Toilet bowls get cleaned,” says Philip M. Tierno Jr., Ph.D., director of clinical microbiology and immunology at New York University Langone Medical Center, “but keyboards rarely do.”

    What to do

Tierno says the best way to keep your laptop or computer’s keyboard clean is to gently wipe it down daily with disinfecting wipes.

Hmm, disinfecting wipes huh? Some of them use alcohol as the disinfectant. Fine for a public keyboard but not on my personal machine.

infact this post encouraged me to clean my laptop since the last time I did it was... hmm... a long time ago.

And I love my shiny screen and greese-free keyboard now!

lol, I actually use disinfectant wipes on my MBP 13". On the unibody and keyboard that is. Not the screen.

And sure enough it cleans amazingly well! I'm not sure if its damaging to the aluminum though.

Not all wipes use alcohol as the disinfectant; but it will discolor aluminum.

    ROFL good one.

I have used the clorox disinfecting wipes on my keyboards for years now and had no issues. I would never use them on a screen. I have only used approved lcd cleaners that will not scratch and a microfiber cloth. Most times, i just use the microfiber cloth. it wipes away the occasional finger smear... The key is to be gentle.

Well the E-cloth that I linked to earlier in this thread cleans the keyboard, LCD and chassis....the whole lot.
Microfibre cloths on their own are OK and do the cleaning part well but they dont buff it up properly and give it that brand new look. Thats why I use the E-cloth(s) because one is the microfibre cloth and the other is some other sort of lint free cloth that adds the new shine to the cleaning process and dries any damp marks after youve wet the microfibre cloth.
I was very surprised to hear some people use toilet paper or any sort of tissue...it looks awful afterwards especially if its daytime and you can see all the paper particles all over the screen looking like dust.
