I was just wondering to be on the safe side, what the average temperature of the 8800 Video card should be when using Win Vista ( not playing games)

What about when playing very power hungry games?

Another quick question I wanted to throw in is, lets say I have an HDMI connected to the laptop/tv does the card use more power ? If yes, does it still need power even when HDMI connected, but the tv is off?

My card is now on 70C Degrees and im just in windows alone... It used to be around 48 when I was in windows so im just making sure... Also I was playing a game last night and all I heard was the fan from the left side of the computer very loud, normally when I play games i would hear the sound from the right side...

Idle GPU temperature for me with an external display connected through HDMi is usually around 60C. Without one, it is less than that, around 49-54C I would say. I've peaked at 92C on demanding games and usually run around 80-85C for recent games. I don't believe it consumes anymore power when the TV is off, as there is nothing on that demands power.

wow those m15x's really heat up. Those temps are just ok-ish. My setup idles at 45C and reaches 77C after intense gaming. I would say if u reach anything beyond 90C its time for a notebookcooler and if that doesnt help its time to send that laptop in.

Not even close. I'm using a cooler. Danger zone isn't until 100C+ and 92C is my peak. Not to mention your laptop is a 17". m17x doesn't have heating issues either, you can't compare 15.4" to 17" and my idle temperature without an external monitor is the same as yours.

The highest temp my 8800m gtx has ever reached was 86 once. Most of the time that number is 85..

I'm testing out my new laptop cooler (in my sig) and the highest I'm hitting even during intense gaming is 77 so far.

actually danger temps for the Nvidia mobile GPUs is around 95C.

when the GPU reaches the danger temp, the GPU will usually downclock itself to try to cool down

the threshold temp is around 100-105+ C degrees.

when the GPU reaches the threshold temp, the GPU will shut off (in turn causing the entire system to shut off) to prevent any further heating damage.

I went over this in the NBR Cooling Central.

make sure those temps do not float past the 90C mark for long durations.... it will damage the card if it stays and runs at that temp (you will know when it starts downclocking and having artifacts).
