I`m looking to configure an M17x with 2 x 320GB @ 7200rpm hard drives, does anyone know what make of hard drive that will be used in the Alienware for the above ?

I`m just asking really to see whether its worth getting the cheapest possibe hard drive in the M17x like a 160GB and then put 2 x 320GB seagate hard drives in at a later date ? How ould this affect your warranty if you used after market hard drives ?

AW has used predominantly Western Digital HDDs and Samsung SSDs in the past. of course, with the Dell merger, there's no telling what you'll get (since Dell is well known for the HDD lottery buying from them can be). if you want to be on the safe side, get a base drive and upgrade yourself. AW reps here on NBR have stated that upgrading the RAM and HDDs on your own will have no effect whatsoever on the warranty.

    Thanks whizzo

I`m not an expert in this area so forgive this question if it seems dumb, lets say i just get a 160Gb hard drive, will that come as one 160GB drive or 2 x 80GB.

The reason i ask that is lets say i get a 160GB hard drive and its just one unit will their be space to change that to 2 hard drives of 2 x 320GB as it will be going into a space where one hard drive was ?

The Free Fall sensor HDD's are seagates (for all sizes) 99% of the time.

if you order one drive, you get one drive. there are two full-sized 2.5" bays in the M17x.

Thanks that was the info i needed, do you know which model seagate they use, i wouldn`t mind 2 x Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB Hard Drives @ 7200rpm or the 7200.4, which ever was best really.

Whats the best hard drives to use these days ?
