In my view, once you get to 17" (desktop replacement) multimedia should be a top priority. Sometimes I just want to sit back and watch a movie or listen to a CD, so accessing these functions should be a simple task--i.e., without having to boot the OS--that's why other manufacturers have already implemented this feature into their systems.

And speaking of multimedia, can someone tell me why AW removed the TV cable port? I appreciated that added DVR feature.

Lately, I'd wish for the ability to use the screen strictly as a monitor. That would be a godsend for us multimedia maven.

I own an HP dv9700t, and while it boasts as having a multimedia feature, when you hit the button and the computer is off, it simply loads windows and then fires up the multimedia software. I'm not sure if its the same for other laptops, but I found this contrary to the hype in the user manual, and not a very useful feature.

I think it should be possible to actually use the keyboard for typing. It's too far from the front edge of the system. The palm rest should only be 2.6 or so inches deep.

I'd love to see the sharp edges in the front to be softer and rounded, as they cause bruising when typing for prolonged periods of time. And they could ship it with two black tennis wristbands with Alienhead on them to complement the hat and prevent the bruises from the edges. ;)

Also, I'd love it if they'd got rid of the touch strip and replaced it with standard buttons that you can actually feel click.

On the component front, I'd love to see a LED screen, a Core i7 CPU, triple channel memory, SLI and crossfire high-end DirectX11 video cards, a mainboard with an Intel chipset, a built-in Xbox 360 Wireless controller for Windows receiver, an integrated Creative X-Fi sound card, support for those 13.5mm thick 2,5" HDDs and more.

Also, there should be a (working) option in the BIOS to prevent the laptop from disabling dedicated video cards when booting on battery. And I'd also like to see full voltage control in the BIOS, a plethora of overclocking options to play with, fan control (at least allow us to set the fans to always run on 100% when on AC power in the BIOS or let us lower the temperature threshold where the fans kick up to full speed) and more.

Those are my ideas so far.

    Half pointless

No reason to game on battery any way it would lag from power draw

also you can type on this. It is not dells problem your a tiny person that can't reach the keys

It's a big computer and it's size helps it with the cooling solutions. Also I never want a core i7 in my laptop .... Least no this generation

That's not something you can fault the person for, is it? And it is Dell's problem if they want to make more money. ;)

Any way I can see where he is coming from but it would be really werid to have so much space between the screen and keyboard

That's dreaming just a bit too far, isn't it?

Personally I'd love it if Alienware were the first out with a laptop incorporating the Lucid Hydra chip for perfect multi-GPU scaling.

I have to say, I really like the integrated 360 controller receiver idea....I may have to look into hacking one apart and doing this anyway lol

The challenge becomes where to put it....I know it is just a single board and would fit most likely in a mini pci-e size space

I would like a red light on my power adapter instead of blue...I know this seems petty but I have a red system, red lights....and the blue just irks me :)

Also would have liked a piece of carbon fiber or something other than the plastic on the lid, it cheapens the feel of the otherwise rock solid metal..
