So I've had my m15x for a good two or so months, and im quite happy with it. No real big problems yet, other then the cheap plasticy feel of it, and the screechy case, but thats fine.

Anyways, I'm not really finding this laptop to be as fast as I thought it would be....

My C2D 6600 Desktop feels faster then my x9000 laptop, is that right lol....
I dunno but anyways my question is, what comes on the m15x thats completely unnecessary for most users, and would free up space, and make the laptop run some-what faster...

If nothing would make it faster, can someone just let me know of a couple things that come installed but are not really needed for most users, that you can safely remove?

Whats all this Cyber Youcam stuff for example, to be honest I think the software sucks, and I dont really need it for my cam to work over msn, can it be removed, or would it disable the cam working properly...

Id be really happy if some users replied and just shared some views on what they think is required and what isn't for most people.

The Cyberlink YouCam is needed for your webcam to work though you can disable anything related to YouCam in your startup (Run > msconfig) or your services (Run > services.msc) to reduce the amount of stuff that gets started during your start up. You'll still be able to use it whenever you need to and you won't have to forgo the entire software itself, but it cuts the amount of work your notebook has to do during the boot process.

Other than that, you can try following this guide to increase the performance of your notebook:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=5787

The majority of the guide can be applied primarily on notebooks that have Windows XP on it, but I suppose you can apply at least some of it on Vista.

I don't know if I'm reading the OP right here but it sounds like you're asking about what is so called "craplets". Apps bundled by the OEM that isn't really doing anything other then slowing you down. In the case of the m15x, there really aren't any. Everything that comes pre-loaded provides some important function. So, just as the previous two posters are getting at, what you need to look into is tweaking vista itself.

We pride ourselves on building and sending systems without 'bloatware'. All programs are either part of driver packages or are necessary for certain functions (e.g. - AlienFX Command Center)

Sometimes I think Alienware james and armando are automated responses....
But im sure they are paid to say certain lines. Anyways msconfig is the main place to disable things but you really should know what your disabling first. You dont want to mess anything up

I don't think they are because I notice most grammatical errors, even though I'm not grammatically perfect either. If it were an automated response, everything would look verbatim and I notice small things like punctuation and capitalization discrepancies.

On topic though, James is right. The most you would have to do is tweak Vista yourself which should be the owners choice anyway.
