So i have the choice between 2 alienware systems. M15x Vs M17x, main use will be gaming only.

    Specs:

    M15x
    i7 720QM
    ATI HD 5850
    6GB DDR3 1333Mhz Dual Channel
    500GB 7200RPM HDD
    1920x1080 LCD Display

    M17x
    i5 520M
    Dual Mobility 4870
    4GB DDR3 1066Mhz Dual Channel
    250GB 7200RPM HDD
    1600x900 LCD Display

The M17x costs roughly $250 US more than the M15x with these configs. These are pre built and cannot be customised. So what do you guys think I should get? Is it worth spending that extra on the M17x? How much faster is the 4870x2 in gaming?

I'd go with the M15x on that. Better CPU, and screen. I'd only get the M17x if I could get the RGB 1900x1200 screen.

I would roll with the dual 4870s plus, you can upgrade the cpu and gpu's later, if you want.

Dells bundled specials are often no better than if you build to your specification. Don't settle.

Better for gaming would definately be the dual 4870's like others stated. Plus as CUELLARM pointed out, other stuff can be upgraded later. But for best experience, add the 1920x1200 RGB screen. It's head and shoulders above the other screens. Save a little for it if you have to.

QFT. Looking at other screens now makes me bow my head in shame.

With your current configs, get the M15x, Add the RGB LED screen and it's m17x hands down.
