So just got off the phone with Dell rep, I got my M17x ordered.
    2.4 (eBayed QX9300), 260m GTX SLI, 4GB, 1 TB (2x 500 7200 Raid0)

Can't wait to have it delivered :D

My Dell rep guy told me I can still make chages to the order in the next few days so my question is, what is a real performance difference between the 260 and 280s in SLI? I looked around in performance thread but didn't find definite answer. Is it really worth 370 CAD upgrade or should I wait till something better comes out like 300mGTXes?

wait for the GTX 300M's and sli them... do not buy the 280's it will be a waste unless you dont want to upgrade... the 260's in sli are in between the 9800m gtx sli and the gtx 280m sli... all 3 of them are very good... so settle for 260's for now and wait for 300's... this is also what i will be doing so you wont be alone...

I think it's too early to decide for any of them. To be on the safe side go with the cheapest option and when people start proving which is better and why, it will be easier to make a decision.

Btw if you upgrade VCs with Alienware/Dell, do they just give you a price for a brand new product and you just keep the old VCs to dust?

Why am I asking is I might downgrade then to just 1 260m GTX then...

I think your GTX 260s are fine.As bifnewman said, the 260s are between the 9800M GTX and 280.This means either way you are getting kick-butt performance.I believe you have to send it to dell/alienware in order upgrade the GPU.

or if you want 280's you could order from rjtech or sager notebooks... not sure about xotic... dont worry about compatibility both the dell alienware m17x and the clevo m980nu have and use mxm 3.0b
