Guys, I am about to buy a M18 R2, but I was wondering what to do about my old M17 R2. I have no experience with selling anything so I doubt I will try to sell it on eBay. So I wanted to know what did you guys do with your old system when you upgraded?

Keep it as a spare or backup laptop?

Use it as a machine to experiment with i.e. software and hardware.

Or sell to someone you know, that is what I did with some of my old machines. Sold to people I work with.

Either sell it to someone you know, or someone in the local area, or give it to one of your relatives/friends as a gift.

I'd keep it too. Not many people have multiple AW laptops. Enjoy your R2 as a backup machine or use it e.g. for torrents only as kinda portable server/workstation.

Ebay is easy to use, CL can be good as well if you want to sell, which is what I would do.

Keep them and enjoy them. If you have family, let them enjoy them. Yesterday's Alienware systems make awesome gifts for loved ones if you don't plan on using it yourself. I cannot bring myself to part with them. Your M17x R2 is still going to be more powerful than many so-called "gaming laptops" sold by most of Alienware's competitors. They are like an older pet that you don't want to get rid of... still much loved, even though they don't play quite as hard as they used to.

Keep it if you dont have to worry about cash and helping pay for the new machine....sell it if you do. Simples.

One thing I kind of miss is the old "ribbed" design on the older laptops. I always thought that was a cool choice. I wish Dell would bring that back as a nostalgia option.

    Nobody has mentioned upgrading it!

Equip it with a 920XM and a couple of 7970Ms or 680Ms and there is no reason to move to the M18x R2...

    I'd consider parting it out.

    I reckon sell it.

However if you do do a lot of film editing/3d modelling (like I do) I'd say keep it and add it to the render farm. :p
