After a few hours of getting to know my new M17x, I've noticed quite a lot of programs that are very troublesome. I thought that I would make a thread about some of the things that you all installed within the first 24 hours of having your M17x or other programs that can get canned.

Is it the antivirus software constantly asking me if I want to load a program? Or is that Windows?

Mine didnt come with any AV on it but i noticed some people had it . beyond that i had almost 0 bloatware which was very nice . I did a clean install later on just for giggles but it made 0 difference since it was already a clean install really.

Windows 7 is the way to go as soon as you can get hold of it, dont know about benchmarks but it seems a whole lot smoothwer all round, definitly more stable not one system crash since installing

K, i got it fixed quad. LOL. You're right about me and Vista. My desktop was running XP so I wasn't sure what was pestering me the whole time.

I removed Mcafee and installed avast. Other than that, the only other thing I've done is install the DOX 182.46 drivers, Windows updates and Physx.

    Still need to OC.

I agree. Mines did not come with any bloatware except Nero 9. Ugh. Nor did I have an antivirus protection.

Alienware does not install junk software on their systems, only what is necessary or required. Manufacturers are required to install a DVD burning software if they install a DVD drive, so that is why Nero is installed (mine actually has CyberLink).

If you got a BD drive then I believe you'll get the upgraded version of cyberlink that supports BD.

That is correct - M17xs equipped with Blu-ray drives will get the CyberLink software.

I don't use Nero or CyberLink so I am unable to comment on which is better.

I use IMGBURN for everything now since its not always running in the background like nero or other apps do . Lightweight and gets the job done .

Seconded on Imgburn. Another good one is CDBurnerXP. And you can't beat the price of free.
