Hi all,
Title says it all. Which ones have a good performance/price ratio? I'm thinking of just getting stock 500GB HDD then upgrading it to an SSD for system files, a few games and some documents as well as software such as Adobe PS, Pro/Engineer, Matlab etc. (shouldn't take too much space). Then put the HDD in an enclosure and I have my storage solution.

OCZ Vertex 3!
-
I second vertex 3. Fastest drive onthe market right now.

$300 for 120GB or $549 for 240GB OCZ Vertex 3 on newegg. I think 120GB should be enough but I'm a little paranoid when it comes to space. Does anyone know other good places to get these as they are out of stock on newegg?
-
They say the 240 vertex 3 is faster than the 120. How much faster? Not sure, but if you don't need 240, go with 120. I'm guessing in real life numbers maybe worst case scenario windows takes 2-3 seconds longer to boot? Just a random number I'm throwing out.

And, double posting because I'm too lazy to click the edit button: buy from amazon, last I saw 240 was $528 and no tax either. (at least in cali)

yeah, and students with .edu get 1 year Amazon prime free
-
You get the Prime free, but the free streaming videos are only for paying Prime members. I have been paying for Prime for years. The videos now make it a no brainer IMHO.

As nice as the SATA III Vertex 3 is, it is still overpriced. Yes it is the fastest, but I see a steady price drop as we go. I'm going to be ordering the Samsung 470 drive for mine, even though it is Sata II. I'll jump on the SATA III bandwagon when the controllers mature a little and after we see what Intel is going to do later this year.

What's a good SATA 3 SSD to get for the Alien?
