Has the best mobile IGP of any Intel-supporting chipset out. So it is a master of one thing.

I don't consider ANY IGP master of ANY gpu related tasks....

Guess that's me (and why I have dual 280's :))

Thanks... I had read in a different post that it was an Intel Chipset, which didnt make a whole lot of sense.

Now you're just trying to cover for yourself by comparing IGPs to discrete cards.

    Apples and Oranges. ;þ

Heh. You do have to admit though, the 9400M is a wonderful little integrated chip, it'll play pretty much any older game out there even if not on the best graphics options. I've got several games that I play a lot that it'd do fine on :)

It's not apples-oranges. That would be if I compared, say, a 9400 and a P8700. Then we are getting out of an element.

I won't talk gpu's with you phin, as the one constant in the conversation is you being right and everyone else being wrong....

    Oh, and I never said that I didn't like the 9400 :)

Then what was the point in your M17 w/cf 3870's? :p

You could have bought some $400 notebook and been happy....

    1. I was half joking. Portal is the best single player game evarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr but that doesn't mean it's the only game I play :p I'm pretty sure that if you played your favourite single player game endlessly you'd get bored pretty quick.

    2. I play multiplayer games too ;)

I'm glad you noticed. It's because I only comment on subjects I know something about and only make definitive statements when I'm sure I can support them. ;þ

When a 280m does things like controlling the system's FSB, handling communication between the CPU and all the other components of a laptop....and can be housed in a 10-12" ultra-thin laptop (or even under a 15" laptop) that'll run it for more than 2.5 hours on a battery then comparing an IGP to a discrete GPU will be about Apples and Apples.

Anywho, just because the 9400 does other things besides processing graphical data does not mean it isn't a GPU, right?

And back to my other comment, I agree - when the 280M does indeed do everything the 9400 does then, yes, the 280M will be the jack of all trades and master of (at least) one! lol

It's because the MCP79 is an integrated chipset and a GPU that makes it different than a 280m which is just a discrete GPU....and it's also because of that that the MCP79 is also the best IGP option around.

Sure, I will also agree with that (MCP79 is the best IGP around). No argument there.

how does SLI 260 compare to SLI 280 in performance? i have just ordered my M17x days ago, and i ordered SL280, but now after digging deeper, the folks are saying it's actually no difference.. ouch, i just bit the marketing bullet.
