Ever since my last fourm about having a low memory error while playing World in Conflict. Just today I'm having a new problem. While playing Witcher w/all updated patches. I'm getting a new error! Game would shut down and windows will state that there's an issue with the program. It won't give me anymore options for help etc? I'm lost and not a Vista user. I have Vista Home premium. Can someone give me instructions on how to check or fix that. I do notice that the rear fan is at maxed speed and the system is hot. Don't know if that's normal while playing games. Thanks for any input.

    Specs are:
    1920x1200 LCD w/CAM
    T7200 2.0GHZ@667Mhz
    2.0 Gig of Ram@667Mhz
    160 Gig HD@7200RPM
    Vista Home Premium with update
    Service pack 1
    Single 512MB 7950GTX

    Hey there AlienContact,

I would try a few things. First get a boot disk like Hiren's BootCd ( http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd) and try to run the CPU and memory stress tests each for a few hours. If you get errors then I would start there and see what is wrong. If all is well there then I suggest finding a GPU stress test program like 3Dmark or rthdribl ( http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/) and loop it for a while. See what happens, record temps and errors and get back to us :)

Just so you dont panic, I also get Witcher to crash now and then after a few hours or so. No error codes or anything either. But I have SLI and XP so my setup is a little different. Last resort if you cannot find anything wrong I would go back to XP as Vista wont do anything for the 7950GTX.

    Good Luck!

OKay, So I did tried a few things, I mean a few. I couldn't locate or found a Vista suitable program using Hiren's BootCD website. However thanks for the link. But I do have 3dMark06. Ran it and using 1024x786 res, got me a total score of (6026) Here's a break down of the test:

    SM2.0 Score : 2573
    HDR/SM 3.0 : 2650
    CPU score : 1679

Not sure if there's any temp records or anything. I did notice the fan full blast at 1 time in the test. I belive the firefly or something other than that it ran nice and no errors what so ever. I also just heard a scratching sound while playing Witcher. Also the game shuts down at a certian spot of the game. It's when you talk to the sleeping Revend and he gave you the gold ring so you can show the townsmens trust. I went down to his basement and pick up the items in the barrels stacked agianst the walls. Boom game closes! Im going to save in the revened's house and try agian. If it's always in that location, it's an software issue? Right? Anyways thanks for your help! By the way what's with the scratching sound. It's not the HD for sure cause the HD light never lit up when the sound's on. Thinking Video card or this games got a huge bug! I'll repost a follow up!

Yea I would advise to follow what chaz said. You can try running programs like Memtest86 and see if that finds the problem. Good luck.

Or you can use the Memory Diagnostics tester that comes with Windows Vista. (Boot Screen option) ;)

Okay, new patch downloaded, not sure but it worked on that end. I'm getting my G.Skillz 4Gb CLS4 memory on Monday 4-28-08, shipped thur Newegg.com. I'm going to install it and run a new benchmark test and re-post it. Not sure how to run this memory diag. tester as like I said im new to Vista. Other than that it plays fine so far i'll see if there's anymore errors. I'll try to play it for hours over the weekened and repost my issue. Thanks guys!

It's the same kind of test, but, I use that since it's convenient and it comes with Vista.

Memtest86 is pretty good. If your ram passes that then don't worry about testing it on the Windows Mem Diagnostics test.

By far the easiest and quickest way to start the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool is to do so from the Windows Boot Manager when you reboot your computer. To do this remove all bootable CDs and DVDs and start your computer. After the BIOS information is shown on the screen, and as there is pause with a black screen before Windows normally starts, you would press your spacebar key. This would put you into the Windows Boot Manager.

At the Windows Boot Manager screen, press the TAB button on your keyboard to select the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool and then press the enter key to start it. Regardless of how you entered the Memory Diagnostics Tool you will now be at the diagnostic tool's main screen and the tool will automatically start to test your memory.

Okay, new 4gb G Skill Memory installed. My Vista System info went from RAM score of 4.5 to 4.6. (impressive? Not!) Notice slight change in programs and boot time. Maybe 3-5 percent. The 3dmark06 test acutally is lower? Witcher is a bugged out game for sure. Or maybe Vista isn't a gamer windows for sure. It drops out at certain point of the game and it's always a certian point. Randomly but always the same point. Unless I do something different like skip that point and come back later. Weird! But i'll keep playing that game cause it's getting interesting and better. Well thanks all!

oh, that Vista system test thingy is buggy anyway. two friends of mine have exactly the same laptop and their scores differ by about .5 across the board.
