Will the current m15x's support the new quadcore coming out? Will the motherboard support it?

    What about the 9800gt/x?

I am really considering giving back my M1530 and speding the extra 400 to future proof, but I guess it'll make a big diff if it's not able to be upgraded...

    Anybody know yet?

    Thanks!

    Zero likelihood.

Montevina itself IS a new chipset, ie. motherboard revision. And brings in newer processors for it.

Yeah, montevina is a generation of centrino, so montevina will support the new socket B processors, WiMAX cards, 800 MHz DDR3 RAM, etc etc. As Prasad007 said, montevina itself is just the next generation of the "stuff" that intel puts into motherboards. You cannot "upgrade" this, you need to actually go out and purchase a laptop that uses the montevina platform. As I said, montevina cannot be upgraded to, only bought.

I guess i'll just stick with this comp then.....was playing crysis today and getting decent framerates at 20-23 FPS at 1200x728 (that rez or close to it).

Don't know if I really need to go for the m15x...it just looks so cool, could always wait for the clevo 860tu with montevenia, but again, the alienware just looks sooo coool. lol

maybe I can do the alienware alien head mod on my m1530. yeah, totally rice out my xps 1530 LOL. That's like guys with the integras ls's back in the day putting type r stickers on themm....haha those were the days.

Will the Montevina platform be more expensive? And if i buy now will i still be able to upgrade the graphics card in the future?
My m1530 will be picked up this week and i get a refund so might as well buy the m15x to futureproof my system

    1) NVIDIA hasn't announced what MXM standard the 9800M GTX will use,
    2) AW hasn't announced it would be compatible,
    3) The M15X has enough problems handling the heat of the 8800M GTX,

    so

    4) I seriously doubt it'd be compatible. You'd be better off assuming that it's not.

The 8800M GTX in the AW and the Clevo is three times as powerful as the 8600M in the Dell XPS M1530. :D

Isn't that what you would call a little more? :D But im not buying the alienware until they fix it. Have the money for it but im in denmark so its pretty hard to ship it to repairs, so i need a working system. I think i might just wait for the clevo.

As alienware has done with their previous comps, they porbably won't update the platform

What do you mean? Are you saying they won't make a centrino 2 version of the m15x?

I think he's referring to AW's usual lag time in updating their platform, not totally ditching the idea..
I remember that from an earler post of his.. Unless it was another guy with Darth Vader in his avatar

I can't really say.. I was only saying what the others have said..
My guess is a couple of months..? Anyone wanna confirm that from past AW behaviour ?

The problem is that if the wait is going to be too long then Im probably going to just buy now. But if new m15x's come right when montevina is announced, then I'll just wait til I graduate (this laptop is partially a grad present for me).

Outta high-school ? Well sames here then.. Grad, Birthday, College and maybe even Christmas gift :p I'm paying for 28.435% too..
I think you could PM Stone85 or some others if you wanna know how AW have acted in similar situations in the past.. Don't go on my word alone :)

From what i have read about, they seem to make a series, specced to the current equipment at the time and when new stuff comes out, they make a new series. If you look at the Area-51 desktops, each time a new HDD or graphics card comes out they advertise a "New" system... I'm not saying that they won't upgrade existing systems it's just that with laptops it's that much more diffucult to fit new stuff into an existing chassis.

Let's face it, once you've had a notebook for 6 months, it's already been superceded by newer technology any so...

I'm waiting for the M17X, with whatever it's got in it at the time of release, you can wait forever for the next new bit of tech...

    Just my two-pence...

0% Don't expect to "future proof." After all, it's a laptop. If you want future proof go with a desktop.

Yeah, and even then you'll be lucky to stay current for two months at the rate that technology is changing at the mo ment.

I'm expecting to buy my shiny M17X and in 6 months Alienware will release a bigger better model...

    Ho hum

I'm beginning to wonder if AW are gonna switch from their usual tactics with this one.. Instead of coming out with a new laptop, they may be holding back on the Black Skullcap/Ripley to release that in conjunction with a Montevina platformed m15x  !!
They'd follow it up with a silver obviously, but that'd be a nice way for Black-waiters to get somin in return for waiting sooo long :D
Or maybe that's all just wishful thinking :(

Do you think they'd plan that far ahead ??

    ;) Weeeellllll....

Nah, i think they will have planned a little into the future but, seeming as most of there up to date systems rely so much on new technology, they are almost bound to wait for new stuff to be tested etc.

I like your idea of Monty :D
