First thing i did was install windows 7, then spent the next few days figuring out how to get everything working on windows 7 (this was back in june). Nut if your system arrives with Vista on it, i highly recommend the jump to 7.
-
yeah, i think i will. I just hope the tranisition is smooth. have you had many issues with windows 7 kqmaverick?
-
now that dell is posting actually windows 7 drivers its alot easier. Just make sure to use either 186.82 or 186.91 for your nvidia driver and you should be fine.

sounds good. i will definitely do that. Im also lookin to do a clean install of windows 7. is vista required for the clean install or is there some way i can install windows 7 all by itself?

i took a swim in a swimmingpool out of joy. I was on vacation in spain when it arrived because they early shipped it. when i got home i unpacked first, took a shower and then the ultimate moment....i finally opened the box. first thing i did was turn of user account garbage then install firefox and objectdock (cant live without them)

Firefox is an alternative web browser. You can find more info here: http://www.mozilla.org/
You can also find info on ObjectDock here: http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/
Although not as robust as ObjectDock, Dell offers DellDock which is made by the makers of ObjectDock. It is free to download.

delldock looks pretty spiffy. is it odd to still be in the build stage and have a ESD of 27 october.

Talking about FPS we have some must buy games (depend on your taste but overall they are must buy): Crysis and its stand alone expansion Crysis Warhead. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 (note that MW series have exceptionally awesome multiplayer mode). COD World at War, Far Cry 2 or Mass Effect (RPG+FPS) stand right after. I really really love ME. We also have Brothers in Arms Hell Highway or Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (pretty old, just in case you don't know) for tatic FPS.
Talking about good demanding games you may want to check out Assassin's Creed and its sequel will be released around Nov. GTA IV, The Witcher. If you like Old West theme you may go with Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.
There are some newer good games which I haven't updated yet since I was stick with Mac for quite a long time. -
first thing i do?
take a picture from all angles with room lights off, post the pics on facebook and let my friends drool.....
the next day?
bring it to school and repeat the drool....
note: be prepared to do a lot of Q&A and your geeky mates will throw you a lot of technical questions -

Installed Far Cry 2 and had neighbours complain about gunfire. Hey it's not my fault the speakers were fricking loud.
SillyHoney's recommendations are pretty much 100% correct. Though Mass Effect seems to have pretty bad texturesLove that game though.
Far Cry 2 made me drool. Crysis looks amazing (haven't spent much time on it though, and haven't even put in Warhead yet) on my M17x. -
You will need to restart Mass Effect for any texture changes you applied in the graphics options to be applied.

Yeah, but it still looks bad. I mean, not really bad but just, worse than the highest settings are in other games.

Yeah! Not in the same class with Crysis
But I love the cutsenses. Totally epic especially the one when main character takes charge of the ship and encourages his crew, and some ending cutsenses too
It was like a movie. I felt let down when I choose to save the right-hand man instead of the woman. They are the ones that stick with us from the very first level. And the part when I chose to shoot the big fat ugly animal kind member because he complained too much about his kinds was fun too. Sorry I cannot remember their names anymore. My life has changed a lot since then.

I will get my system on Wed I think.
Fiirst: Checking if the nameplate is engraved correctly. Somehow I fear my sale rep might **** me up with a wrong nameplate.
Second: Start it with the hope Windows 7 is already installed. I asked my sale rep to get it preloaded into my system before shipping it but again, Im afraid theres a chance he ****ed me up.
Third: Check if the Orion Backpack fit, gently start the new Zalman NC2000, plug the new Logitech G51 audio jack and try a new Logitech Performance MX with my system. These things has been collecting dust for quite a long time waiting for the real star to come.
Fourth: Check for any error my system may have. -
On receiving a new system I do the following in the following order:
1. Re-Install the entire Operating system and drivers or Respawn discs yourself to ensure that ALL the disks you received with your system are working. You don't want to discover your cd/dvd's are not working after your warranty runs out.
2. INSTALL A DECENT ANTIVIRUS AND FIREWALL AND ALSO UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM WITH THE LATEST SECURITY UPDATES.
3. Install as many Benchmark and Stresstest programs as possible and "Bench and Stress" your system to the MAX. I do not recommend overclocking UNLESS you know what you are doing. You should discover any hardware issues almost immediately after this. Dont forget to test your Ram. There are many programs that can do this. Use Google to search for benching and stressing programs. I'm sure the other members here can recommend a ton.
4. Install your games and every day productivity software that you use and you should be ready to go.
Cheers! -
