So pretty much everyone on this forum know GTX 980M and GTX 970M is coming in October with vastly better performance than 800M series which current models are using.
But from all the benchmarks found, from atleast 6-10 different noteboook models, none Alienware's are found.
Plus when Nvidia announce the cards, Alienware is not on the list.
![]()
Surely Alienware are planning to feature these, but is Alienware planning a seperate event to present Alienware R2? Or will they be using the current R1 design and just using the new 900M cards?
Also, are Alienware usually fast at getting new cards or are they months behind MSI and the likes?

To me, Dell/Alienware always seem to be slightly behind other manufacturers in releasing the latest GPU hardware - I doubt we'll see a redesign of the current line up just yet, given that the new 13 looks to carry the same design theme...but who knows!!
-
I find it weird that Alienware (Alienware 17 nor 18) is not on the list, while all other brands like Clevo, Asus and MSI is. Just got me thinking that Alienware might be planning a seperate event to present new units or something.
So weird. It stands between MSI GT72 with GTX 980M or Alienware 18 with GTX 980M/970M SLI for me, but if Alienware is 2 months late to the party, I have no other choice than buying that MSI -

They will be out in October. Not sure why there isn't any news about it, but senior level staff has confirmed they will launch the AW 13 before November, according to an interview on YouTube. They probably wanted to launch at some event like they have for years. Any events coming up? http://www.americangaming.org/events-and-programs/global-gaming-expo
EDIT: They may not launch the R2's until January when Broadwell comes out. The Alienware 13, Alpha, and Area-51 may be the only new products until then. Every lineup refresh was launched when new processors hit the market: M17x R3 was Sandy Bridge, M17x R4 was Ivy Bridge, Alienware 17 R1 is Haswell, Alienware 17 R2 is Broadwell?
It's odd but everything is delayed. I'm not Entirely sure what's going to happen. -
-
High performance Broadwell isnt launching until Q2 2015.
New motherboard with HM97 that supports Broadwell would nake sense but I have a feeling that Broadwell will have different pin layout/count than Haswell so thats a no go.
But releasing a new R2 for Maxwell could happen I think, atleast when its taking forever to get the Broadwell chips.
But yeah, is there any upcoming Alienware events where they might present the refreshed/new notebooks? -
"Kirk Skaugen, general manager of the Intel PC client group, confirmed that the 14nm Broadwell microarchitecture is now in full production and due to appear in mobile and desktop Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 chips in early 2015."
Intel announced they plan to launch Skylake late 2015.

There is no reason not to just move the current machines over when a new card launches.

Cloudfire.. time close this thread fella. The new Alienware with Maxwell has arrived!

What GPU is it using btw? GTX 860M but with traditional desktop cooling? -
... a soldered one, by the way.Cloudfire likes this. -

Keeping a smaller chip soldered keeps costs and size down.

Not what the guy expected but still, qualified lol

So Nvidia has released the press release for the Maxwell Cards, however one manufacture is missing
Engadget also makes no mention of it. Link below.
NVIDIA's Maxwell architecture brings desktop-class performance and improved battery life to notebooks -
Alienware will update their website soon. They're always late to the party because they can be. People will wait for them because they know it is worth it.
In other words, they like to be fashionably late. -

I think DELL is holding back until they have enough to meet demand, because they've been getting burnt and swamped with orders in the last few years when they come out with something shiney and new. They will probably hold back announcing something until they can handles the release of it. thats my thoughts. could be wrong.
off topic but gte this, just called dell to get a vindicator bag for my 18, and I found it on Amazon and other places for 85$ and such... I asked them to match the price, since these places even give 60-90 days warranty or returns, while dell only gives 21 days, and is hassle to deal with anyways.
A manager had the option to approve price match or not. They declined. They're selling it on special right now for 109$.
Read some reviews of the bag, apparantly its pretty ty quality, the price obviously suggests its a cheap bag, most my swiss bags are 3-400$ but none Ive gotten were larger enough for my 18'', shame.
Can't believe Dell doesn't 1) sell better bags for thier products, considering its top shelf laptop, 2) match prices on thier own product. I literally sent the person i started the convo with, in a chat, a link to the price. So proof is proof. Dell doesn't give two s about you as a consumer. -
Where the hell is the Maxwell chips?
Asus, MSI, Clevo, Gigabyte, Aorus, they have all presented their notebooks today.
Alienware is nowhere to be seen.
The hell. Are the guys running this company so full of themselves that they just don't care?Ferris23 likes this. -

I have the everki titan as well. Love the bag. the only problem is with the neoprene outter pocket. it is already showing slight stretch and ripping signs, even after I babied it. How is yours holding up ? -

Credit to Prema for the post above. It shows a 3D Mark 11 benchmark for a unknown Alienware model with a 980m and a 4960HQ. I hope this does not mean Alienware is shifting to soldered CPU's too. I suddenly feel sick. -

Seems that new alienwares will be announced tomorrow since they're running a sale till 8 oct midnight in the netherlands

If not, then... yeah. -

Soldered cpu and mxm gpu is livable if not totally ideal.

Lol well the 4980hq if you raise the tdp up is not going to be all that different from a 4930mx. The gpu is always where the fun is since it can go between generations where as a cpu can't.

Would be great if that was the AW13 running a quad core soldered cpu and a soldered 980M. Most likely will be a thinner 14" model though.

A lot of companies are using HQ processors with Maxwell. This concerns me. I'd rather stick with a 4910MQ/4940MX than a 4860HQ/4960HQ.
I think anyone interested in spending more than $2k (17", 18") on an Alienware should wait until Broadwell comes out. Even though CPU's don't change much, it is ALWAYS nice to have that option to upgrade, especially for that price. Unless you plan to purchase a new PC every 12-24 months, I think it would be wise to wait to at least see what options become available.reborn2003 likes this. -
It could very well be a Alienware 14 using a soldered cpu to accommodate a mxm board aka the 980M. You never know. I doubt they would do such a thing to the 17/18, that would be a dumb move.
-
I hope they release (soon) a 14" with 980M, that would be amazing
Provided it is capable of keeping it cool, of course.reborn2003 likes this. -
980M is an 100w so probably that won't make it to AW14, plus after so many days with M15x I think 14" screen is not at all good for gaming. And AW would never go for those HQ processors on 17 & 18..
I guess the Aw will soon refresh the new Maxwell 9xxM. Plus that Skylake node refresh is way too much unlike Broadwell vs Haswell, Better to get Skylake prob the AW17 R3 if interested -
Well, they're updating their site, kind of...

Maybe....just maybe......after the somewhat 'flop' of 880m, Dell are going to wait it out a little.....still, it didn't stop them selling loads of machines with a somewhat 'funky' GPU before.....

I am starting to think they are waiting until PAX AU(Oct 31 - NOV 02) to announce their new models...

Now I kind of hope they're waiting for Broadwell to announce their lineup refresh (R2's) because I don't want to see this HQ crap in Alienwares.
I'd prefer they kept the current CPU's and just added Maxwell. -
-
When Alienware release a new model revision (from R2 to R3 for example) will accounce with news over web sites (like this one) or simply updating their web site catalogue/configurator?
-
Yeah it could happen at PAX Australia. I believe the new AW14, 17 and 18 was introduced at a PAX event so it could make sense to show case the new units at PAX AU.
The dead silence from them is not good. Or maybe they are silent because they plan on showing R2 and dont just refresh with new GPUs? -
This year is different because of all the delays with manufacturers. We don't know how it will work this year because this has never happened before. They usually announced at E3 in June or other events before then. They launched the M14x R2, M17x R4, and M18x R2 in April of 2012. It changes...
