I know almost nothing tech wise and computers. I received my M17 middle of March and was wondering if I should be updating drivers. I've been having crashes with both IE and Firefox. Wondering if a driver or drivers could be the issue. I updated IE to 8 and FF to 3.5 something and had to revert back to 3.1 FF. Apparently FF 3.5 does not work with 64bit so well. I see all over the Net the same issue with FF. Anyway I'm more interested in driver updating. How do I know when to update drivers and after six months of owning the M17 should it be about time to be updating at least a few of them?

Windows Update is getting really good at catching new drivers, for example, it will find new Nvidia and Intel drivers (video and network) and automatically prompt for an install. You might want to manually check over your drivers once a year, but the majority of drivers will never have issues, and the ones that do need to be updated, Windows usually gets automatically.

Well if you live in a civilized part of the world and have internet access, updating is a breeze and I do it when new drivers are available, after making sure there are no undue complaints.

But being here, in the middle of Iraq, currently with no way to attach my laptop to the internet, can only use MWR or work internet, limiting what I can download, I choose to wait until very worthy release versions come out. Such as the new A02 BIOS and the recent 186.81 Nvidia drivers.
