The specs they have are pathetic since more than a year, When in the world are they gonna upgrade their lineup to the latest CPUs/GPUs?

Regarding the CPU's I always said that Intel didnt bring anything new to the table since the Sandy Bridge days. This is true in clockspeed performance but I recently found out this is not the case with FPU performance in modern games. My 6700HQ non overclocked beats the crap out of my to 5GHZ overclocked Sandy Bridge 2500K for example. The opinion I had is a very popular opinion online but actually not the case. -
Try more memory speed on ddr3, it'll give a nice boost in fps

According to THIS LINK GTX 1080m is right around the corner. We should see new Alienware updates soon.

There will be no upgrades. All Dellienware cards are now soldered.

What's the odds Aorus already has a 17.3 4K/6820HK with a full GTX 1080 ready next month? -
Technically faster, but doesn't really translate to in game performance scaling.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

The Aorus X7 DT however is constantly hitting 95C and makes the GPU speed very erratic and often hovers well under 900mhz but its not available widely in the wild so this is only from a friend who is actually testing it now as we speak. It is also very loud by the way. Even the AOrus X5S with the 980M has trouble keeping its head cool by the way. -

My best guess is Alienware will release a new laptop line just before the holidays. They can't be the only ones not offering the new 1080m (assuming other manufacturers use it in their machines as advertised). -
Maybe they're waiting till nVidia announces first before they announce theirs. nVidia partners should already have the parts ready.
If they are based off the same architecture, they should get the same results.
watts= frequency*voltage*voltage*constant
If Skylake takes 100w at 4.0f at 1.25v, 3.2f on all cores at 1.1v = 62w

Looking at how much bigger the new Pascal cards are, and that they need aux power, Alienwares will need to change so much more than other manufacturers. I wouldn't expect anything before Q2 next year.

Looking at the SLI configs of the Clevo P870DM2/3 and the new 77xDM2 machines with single 1070/1080 with a 120Hz 5ms full spectrum display panels, 3000MHz XMP factory memory support, factory 2x PSU options for SLI machines and the ESS Sabre HiFi DAC options, Vapour Chamber cooling. They are just aiming for the summit, MSI on the otherhand pushing full MXM slotted machines and upgrades to the older machines with upgrade kits, no secure flash, no low CFM gimped fans, they are runner up just because of the BGA CPU & Then there's this news of MSI going to release the LGA socketed machine with MXM GPUs and easy to maintain for servicing.
Where are you Mr Frank (No profile ?), please give an explanation of the route you chose not that AMA. We need real guaranteed answers not some PR feat things this time around, And Yes, we know that Nvidia stopped MXM reference designs, and don't get that on that excuse again & My intuition says this happened because of Dell dropping with the MXM machines, What happened to the SLI machines ? Is this what the Alienware brand stood for ? Backstabbing and Gimping, using the former self of success with the M18x and M17x lineups ? Selfless and Shameless !! Dell Private company.
As an Alienware customer for a long period I demand an answer.Last edited: Aug 13, 2016 -
1. The P870DM original doesn't seem to be able to use 2x 1080 (clevo model SLi)
2. 7xxDMx may be possible with 1080
3. 7x0ZMx is EOL (at least the motherboard with LVDS) on 10xx support
4. Alienware did offer 120Hz option at some point
5. Prema mentioned that the Clevo options such as extended XMP need a bios from him
6. Prema also mentioned that the EC needs his magic to remove the 2x330w limitation
7. MXM for new Clevo doesn't seem to be usable on the old models (especially the ZM machines, no power connector)
8. MSi is extremely expensive, above AW
9. MSi MXM is weaker in terms of cooling and power delivery capability (smaller MXM, less VRM compared to clevo)
10. MSi does have a physical ESS Sabre DAC in the mobo (GT80S MGTX980 SLi), while the internals of the Clevo does not'
11. The Alienware 17/15 motherboard DOES have a physical Creative Soundblaster chip, dunno if this would function as a DAC or not. But at least it's not the generic Realtek drivers like the other manufacturers. -

I'd take the best of the options, If I want a DTR not a wimpy chained strings attached machine.
Ultimately I'd add, It's more of the user base because the Intel, Nvidia, Micro$lop shoving down anything what they wanted. If it was no NBR there would have been no OCing on Mobile Nvidia GPUs at all with everything completely blocked !! Mama used to say " Be a smart customer"Last edited: Aug 13, 2016 -

The systems arent even out yet, so a proper disassembled images are unlikely to come by, and even after that there is a good chance , and im speaking about this from experience after disassembling the P870DM-G, it will be not in any easily accessible/visible area, simple because there just not enough space around the GPU area/bottom of the system. And this seems to be the case from the limited images we have seen of the GPU side of the systems.
And there is a good chance it wont be under a flashy cover, just plain old shielding.Last edited: Aug 13, 2016 -
Though MSi is also an attractive choice because of better upgrade history. -
A clevo laptop with dual 1080M mxm boards are shown here. http://videocardz.com/63141/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-mobile-gets-gddr5x-memory
Another not standard form factor MXM boards. I wonder how many upgrade-able laptops can actually run these? The temps running these is around 85C which isnt great either.
In my experience if you e-mail Mr Frank Azor he is happy to answer and takes the time to write an answer. These threads are often just too toxic to be even involved in.
They are a business, if it would sell they would build it. They could build something out of prestige but in general by far most consumers just dont want a machine like this (based on what I see and read in various communities) they rather buy a desktop for this level of performance because of the price and better form factor for something that sits on a desktop 24/7.
MSI is trying on the other hand to find its niche because they are hit a bit too much but the declining PC market (just as the other main Taiwanese manufacturers by the way) while PC gaming is the only niche that didnt decline. Dell is just too big to go cater to a niche market. But who knows Alienware might surprise this part of the market.Last edited: Aug 14, 2016 -
I don't care what excuses they offer. It's all mumbo jumbo and doesn't matter simply because they are no longer #1. Clevo is #1, MSI #2 and will stay #2 forever or until they get with the program and nix the BGA crap. Don't care who #3 is. The only one that matters is who is #1 if that's the most important thing. If not, people are going to do whatever they want anyhow. I'm not sure anyone has any information about temps for 1080 SLI using Clevo's new vapor chamber cooling setup. Not sure where @rinneh is getting technical information about that.
I think everyone that believes Pascal is going to be nice right out of the chute is jumping the gun with unrealistic expectations. EVERYTHING that NVIDIA has released in mobile since 580M until now has been a gimped and castrated piece of feces with a stock vBIOS and mostly true (not as severe) with desktop boards with a stock vBIOS. I expect Pascal will be worse than ever with a stock vBIOS. We can expect higher than necessary temps at stock clocks, erratic clock speeds and throttling where there is no reason for throttling. That's just how they roll at the Green Goblin. Push out a half assed product, charge more than it is worth, and let the end users straighten out their messes. The only reason they ever get to have a pass on sucking is because the alternative (AMD) is inferior by a wide margin. Even their next gen best GPU delivers performance on part with obsolete GeForce products.Last edited: Aug 14, 2016Daniel1983, Papusan and temp00876 like this. -

But, the good thing is professional reviews almost always understate performance and frequently overemphasize the wrong things. Not all reviewers that review high performance machines are talented overclocking enthusiasts. Might even be safe to say hardly any or none at all are. I've never seen any laptop deliver an OOBE that meets my expectations in every way. Nobody sells them made that well. The people that manufacture them are not good enough at what they do to deliver that, and the people that assemble them don't take the time to get everything perfect. I always have to take things apart and redo the thermal paste... that's just a given. But, that's OK. I'd rather do it myself and then I know it was done right and nothing left to chance.
Bottom line is, take what you read in a "professional" review with a grain of salt. Great sources of photos and general info such as specs. Real performance information will have to wait until machines land in the hands of the hardcore end users and the firmware mods are ready. Without firmware mods, everything is a mass production jokebook, castrated turd machine even if it has sockets and slots.Last edited: Aug 14, 2016Daniel1983, TBoneSan, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
But what for me the most interesting part is, do these cards work in existing hardware. There are a lot of fans here for the MXM system because you could upgrade older systems. But if they constantly change the MXM form factor that point is kinda moot.
Where are the new Alienwares?
