Stupid me accidentally yanked out the tiny cable going to the power button because I thought I had already disconnected it.

Anyone know where I can order the cable and possibly the locking tab?

Part # on cable is E235863. I did a few searches and prices were ridiculously high on eBay.

Bleh, the part number on that one is good but there are very few of them being sold. Most of the Acer cables being sold are shorter.

I don't remember, how much does our ribbon messure?
Yes it has the same refference, but they can have a different number of pins (i.e. 4, 8 , 12 etc.)

Edit: I just measured it, a M17x R1/R2 ribbon measures roughly 93mm, the one in the ad is 170mm so more than enough!

And come on, $10-$20 for a tiny little cable? You can get the latest Intel WiFi cards for $20.

I have it in front of me atm and i can tell you that it's exactly 93mm(9,3cm=~3,67Inches).
As for the price, yes it is expensive, you might want to look deeper now that you have everything you need ;)

Would you know any good substitutes for cable?
    I found this one:
1-827-992-51 RIBBON CABLE 16 PINS OEM!! | eBay
    but it looks too short.

Thanks for going through all the trouble.

That looks either too thick or too small (if zoomed) to me.
I took a look myself earlier and it seems that online, other than the one on e.bay, there's close to none.
There are some that sell only ribbons of this kind but they don't give any specs (number of pins and width), but calling/emailing them would be a good idea.
    These guys: http://www.nartik.com/advanced_sear...E235863&search_in_description=1&Submit=Search

    No problem.

It does but it's NOT the right one.
Again, you need 0,8cm not 17mm wide, plus that has 1mm wide pins and you need 0,5mm per pin.

No problem, we'll find you one. Have you tried contacting the guys in the link I provided above, even if they don't have it listed they might be able to get one.

I always warn everybody about these before they go and dismantle their systems.

I'm probably going to buy this one.
HP 4-wire Internal Laptop Power Cable

It has the correct part number and everything, so hopefully the chance of error is slim to none.

I'm usually careful about these cables too, but I saw this cable just lying there on the motherboard and I was thinking, "What's this cable doing here? I thought I took it out already." So I yanked it and kaboom!.

Still not the good one, you need 16pins (wires) that one for HP6xxx has only 4 .

exactly, I said it above, it can come with 4, 6, 12 etc.
    So you'll need:
    -The part number
    -ecxactly 0,8mm width
    -at least 93mm long
    -exactly 16 pins

The one from Thailand, seems to be the perfect one but I forgot if the terminals face same direction or not, if they don't, you'll have to do a risky mod on it if they do then there you have your ribbon!!

I can confirm the positions this evening if you can't or no one will do it before.

Even Dell won't sell it alone

That is what I was afraid of, because I remember seing this listing before.
Twisting the ribbon can be a solution but you have plenty of chances for it to break, they're fragile :(
I'll take a look this evening again just in case.

On which side is it broken: touchstrip side or motherboard side?

Everything on the motherboard looks fine.
The metal clip that locks the cable in place is what's broken.

Yeah it's the brown one. It felt hard like metal last time I handled it, but I guess it could be plastic too.
I'll go take some pictures of it in a few hours.

I had a feeling you were talking about that.
well a fix for it would be what I said earlier :
Connect the ribbon, put the brown piece in place and use a piece of duct tape to keep it in place(you can use glue but be careful) and next time you open your system to clean it or for whatever reason disconnect the ribbon from the other clip by lifting the keyboard FIRST!
A permanent fix would be ti buy another touchstrip :/

No, it's the one on the motherboard that's broken. Do you think it would be possible to transplant one of these without breaking it? (Please don't test this out on your system for my sake.)

Also, I tried using shipping tape on it last time and it didn't work. Would duct tape be a lot stronger?

don't worry I already did :D(not on my systems though, a lot of laptops use this).
You can, as it is possible(but I don't recommend at all), take the one from the touchstrip with a razor blade, needle or something. But please be extra careful!
Or you can seat it properly, on the motherboard side, make sure it'll never pop off and every time you open your laptop do not take it off, ever.

If you bought the one on e.bay, it's longer, so you'll be more comfortable lifting your touchstrip next time to pop it off and leave it connected on the motherboard.

I'm thinking of buying another touchstrip to transplant the the locking pin, but I noticed that the one on the motherboard and the one on the touchstrip look a little different.
    Are they interchangeable?

Hey, I can't tell if my locking tab is broken or not. Does yours make a secure click when you close it? I think mine might be broken because it unlocks too easily.
