Alienware machines (especially the new M14x) look really cool, but I need to see one in real life before spending over $1k on one. Where can I go to see ANY Alienware laptop? I just want to see the design in real life.

I heard that Best Buy used to have the M11x, but I know that Best Buy often changes its lineup. Does BB have it on show?

I can't think of any other stores. Where can I see one!?

Fry's Electronics might if you have one near you. They used to have the M15x and M17x on display at the one closest to me.

In Europe, FNAC has them (at least in Portugal).

Unfortunarely Dell doesn't sell them here, so we cannot customize and we cannot have access to the good Dell customer service :(

You'll see it when it arrives at your door in a beautiful big black box. Don't worry about seeing it beforehand, it really is just as impressive as everyone makes it out to be. Besides, the mystery and suspense is half the fun when buying one for the first time.

I don't like the suspense of finding out whether I'll have stuck/dead pixels... :(

The Microsoft/Windows retail store in my local mall had an m17x and an m15x last time I went in there.

Here in Portugal the retail stores don't usually have that. Media Markt is a welcome exception, I buy everything there unless it's severely overpriced. I tolerate minor overpricings because having 15 days to return with no questions asked is worth a minor increase in price to me.

you buy a Alienware from a retail store you will pay a hefty premium price for it at least 20-30 percent more than on dells web site.

thats called the "walk out the door" effect. people are willing to pay more to be able to go pick it up rather than wait 2-3 weeks like the rest of us poor shmucks.

but, for the rest of us, the wait is worth the savings....

"and i love savings da money!"

I don't think anyone is suggesting buying one there, but it's nice to go get hands-on time with one before you decide to pull the trigger. I will probably drop in the Microsoft store next month and see if they have an m14x for me to play with.

Lol, I've never seen a Microsoft store in my entire life... or maybe I wasn't paying attention.

Anyone know if there's a Microsoft store in Providence Mall in Rhode Island?

    Microsoft Store Online

No, doesn't look like there's one there. The MS stores are basically MS versions of an Apple store; same basic layout. Lots of xbox and kinect demos, several surface demo units, and bunches of hardware and software including many different laptops.

However, you can probably find one eventually in a Best Buy, Fry's, or something similar.

You buy it from a store like Best Buy/Microcenter and you will get "watered down" expensive version of it.

I honestly have not seen stuck/dead pixels on a new LCD for a while now. I read somewhere that the process for making the screens had been greatly improved over the last couple of years and that stuck/dead pixels were much more easily corrected if they even occurred at all.

To be fair, I completely understand the worry about getting a bad screen, but even a brick and mortar store cannot promise you will get a screen without defects. To make matters worse, their exchange policy will likely have a clause for stuck pixels (most do) and its something so crazy that one or two will not be enough for them to care.

    Though I could be wrong...

No, I'm not buying it from a store like BB. I just want to see the AW design in person before I pull the trigger on $1k+.

Yeah, I was really hoping to see the m14x in person before I bought it but I guess I'll just have to take my chances. I mean, I do have 21 days to return it if I don't like it.
