Since there are still issues with the m15x, are they planning on releasing an x37 bios eventually?
-
x38, but that's irrelevant. the only real issue with the x36 is the wrong temperature reading, so i guess AW thinks that's not important enough to fix.
-
x38 should, in my hopeful opinion, fix that temp issue as well as allow for more user control of the fan speeds. If the temps reach a certain temperature the fans should override the user settings. This would allow us to have our fans on high all the time (my preference). If someone forgets, the fail safe would override the user settings. How hard would that be to implement?
Also, They should release a new version of AlienFX that is DPI aware. If you have a 1920x1200 screen you can see how small everything is. Changing the DPI allows for a FULL resolution, but enlarges all the fonts and icons. I LOVE IT! However, the nice centered pictures that AlienFX shows when you change volume, press a function key etc. were only created to show at 96DPI (Default) I have mine set at 110DPI and it trims these graphics so you can't see what the volume is changing to.
AW if you are watching check out this page on creating DPI Aware Applications

Don't forget about all the annoying volume slider issues with flickering and spontaniously changing in the middle of a FPS (and then you click to fire and it takes you to the desktop because it thinks you were clicking on the volume picture that just popped up in game)

I don't get it.. even after a year of release, there are still issues with this system? Despite it's rather dated tech, I've been considering this laptop but I'm now finding out that the best BIOS for this system is the one originally released, the touch control craziness most prevalent with the volume slider and sudden shutdowns, and lastly the hinge issue that was never really verified by Alienware had been modified/corrected.
Under this situation of owning this laptop, some of you well over a year, how are you able to tolerate this?
Both Sager's m8660 and Asus's w90's had initial issues (8660 had HD heat issues, W90 overall instability) but have since been resolved and prove in my mind that a company CAN be agile at resolving issues. Why can't Alienware? -
well that's not exactly true. the original BIOS was x26 i believe, x32 is the best version so far. the touch controls work for most people, and the hinge issue has, according to AW, been fixed.
-
Ahh, thanks for the clarification whizzo. Still, I'm dissappointed that this system isn't working perfectly by now though =(
-
I've owned mine for a year and the only issue is the random volume slider. It only occurs on my machine when I'm using it at the same time as charging, and a white color scheme on the slider.
-
@ rgauchey
You've posted twice now (that I've read) that you have the "volume slider craziness" only when set to the white color scheme. What version of CC are you using that provides white as an option?
Are you using findvikas software?
I have version 1.0.33.0 loaded, and there is no option for white.
When I called AW, not Roswell, the agent I spoke with insisted that I was mistaken, and white was not an option on the m15x. When I pointed out that the website showed white as an option, he began to flounder and offered that it was a mistake with the website.
I would gladly forgo my extra shade of blue for a white option. Especially since the extra blue is almost indistinguishable from another. -
i've got white on mine, which is 1.0.28.

Perhaps a rollback is in order.
Has anyone successfully loaded this version on Vista 64? Oceanus's mini-MyHive thread has 1.0.28 available, but lists it as 32 bit only.
Also whizzo, what do you use for Windows 7 if anything? -
nothing. can't be bothered, seeing how little i use win7. i guess you could give findvikas' AuroraLightsFX a shot.
-
I also have 1.0.33.0, yet I have white as an option.

now that's weird.

I agree, they should release new bios so far ago.X36 is almost perfect for me but this noise is kiling me.

kinda like a ford taurus and mercury sable...same but different....
-
wrong way around. we're talking about two ford tauri, but one has a beige interior, and the other has a suede interior, even though they're being sold as the exact same model.
-
oh yeah....my bad....
had to re-read it to see i was in err.... -
No white on mine .33 AlienFX. SUPER BUMMED because every time I imagined myself bringing my m15x places I pictured rocking the white with blue Alienhead.
-
I have white on mine, but that was with an old alien fx commander thign that came with the original m15x disks.
In fact I updated it and now I don't have white. They must have removed it, but it works just fine.
And how come I can only get the light pipe and alienware logo to morph colors? it doesn't let me morph anything else. -
I'm just waiting for findvikas to appear and make sense of all this.
-
lol for those who dont have white option (myself included) try watching one of the tutorials. It clearly shows white as a option in the built in tutorials but no white when making a theme. Its weird cuz I remember setting white as a theme once.
(how do you check the version of cc you have?) -
I have white on mine but can't use it because it causes my volume slider to go crazy. There is another thread about this issue. I ownly have the problem when trying a white theme. Could they be in the process of removing it? Like the secret automotive recalls.
-
Lol I don't have white on mine either but I used vikas' software to make it white. Unfortunately there was noticeable color bleeding and it looked more blue than white for me so I just decided to forgo it altogether
Where's the x37 bios? =)
