Im trying to update my drivers for the 8800M GTX video card and I was told I should download 2 programs before I do anything. One of them is "driver sweeper " an the other ccleaner. Im having a problem after I installed driver sweeper everytime i open it up I get "Cannot create file c :program files\driver sweeper\driversweeper.ini. Access is Denied" so i thought maybe its a bad install so I uninstalled it, downloaded again and im still getting the same problem, it does open but anytime i click any button I get that error. What should I do ?

OK i know the first step is to Uninstall the old driver, but please tell me if this is the correct way to do it.

Device Manager, Hardware and Sound, Display Adapter,
I click on Nvidia 8800m GTX and then I right click and hit uninstall. After thats done I understand either it will automatically reboot or I have to do it myself, next I have to run a program called "driver sweeper" in safe mode to get rid any remaining pieces of the old driver. Please tell me how I can get into safe mode as well... After that is done I restart the computer and go into safe mode again and run a program called "CCleaner" to clean the registry and then reboot again, into safe mode. Then I install the new drivers using the setup file after I copied the moded INI file into the folder and thats it. If someone can please also tell me exactly what I need to press in Driver sweeper to clean whatever i need to clean and also what i need to press in ccleaner... Thank you again for your help I really appreciate your time.

Driver Sweeper and CCleaner do the same thing you don't need both. Programs like driver Sweeper are a precaution usually the uninstaller gets the whole driver and the Nvidia installer for the new driver is usually pretty good about checking for old driver remnants and removing them. You can just install the new driver. I haven't used either program in while so sorry for not being more help if you still want to run them

You can check your driver details in device manager to see if you've installed it correctly :)

everytime i change the driver version i usually just run 3dmark06 to make sure everything is working fine and to see how the new driver affects the score.

right-click on the desktop and go to the Nvidia Control panel. Then click on the bottom left box which will tell you the system info. Check the last tab (i think...I'm not in dedicated graphics right now so I'm not sure) and make sure that all the driver numbers are the same for all of the rows of catagories.
