For those who have owned JBL laptop speakers, aka:
- XPS 15, L501x, L502x
- XPS 17, L701x, L702x
And those have owned Klipsch laptop speakers, aka:
- Alienware M14x
- Alienware M15x
- Alienware M17x
- Alienware M18x
Which audio system do you prefer?
Personally, I have owned the XPS 15 L502x, XPS 17 L702x and the M17x R4.
Both XPS laptops have audio that beats the M17x R4 easily. Even the XPS 15 sounds better than it's bigger M17x R4 cousin. The XPS 17 just puts the M17x R4 to shame.
I've heard that Alienware models that come with Klipsch 2+1 subwoofer configuration still don't sound quite as good as JBL's 2+1 speaker system.
What are your thoughts?

I've owned the M17x R1, and the XPS L702x. The XPS blows the Alienware out of the water, completely. From what I've heard, it blows virtually every other laptop's audio out of the water. You just can't really compete with 22W of dedicated power.

The L502x had great speakers, it was a great 15" laptop. I think the M18x is pretty close to the XPS 15, but not sure really. Klipsch is good but not as good as I expected. I think Bose would be awesome in the M18x, haha.
I'm 50/50 on the two. I believe Klipsch is higher quality, so I'll vote for them. But I will always use external speakers. -
I only have the 17 and the 18 and think whichever set the 17 comes with sounds far better. My 18 just sounds like crap to me. In any event, like Dre says, I run externals, BOSE Companion 3's for my 17 and Companion 5's for my 18 and those sound FAR better than anything I've ever had in the past.

All factory sound settings on the m18x R2 .... my L701X was much better sounding.
Once I fixed the EQ in th sound blaster thing..... the M18x beats out the L701x by a good margin.
The factory settings make the m18x speakers sound like they are in a tin can and the pre set settings in the EQ arent any better. Ill take a screen shot of my EQ for others to try if anyone wants tonight. -

Im on a double shift today so it will be awhile but ill do when I get home.
It is a night and day difference! I dont listen to much music or movies. I play wot on it mostly so you will need to tweak from my settings im sure but it will start you in the right direction. The factory settings and presets are WAY WAY off...
I just dont see how anyone could hear the factory settings and say "thats what a $3-6k computer should sound like!" -
Sounds similar to the Inspiron 17R SE I tried over the Summer. Horrible factory settings, but after playing with the EQ, I got it to about 90% of the L702x. Unfortunately the sub-woofer couldn't keep up. Something somewhere was resonating in the chassis. I'll put that down the build quality, and say that the M18x shouldn't - doesn't meant it won't - have the same issues.

My friend's XPS 17 sounds louder, so JBL for sure.

HERE THEY ARE :
Now remember these are my settings for the one and only game I play but I gaurentee you these settings will be totally night and day from the factory settings and you will be very pleased with the changes. If your using factory setting I bet you will wonder how you ever dealt with them after this lol. Tweak as you need for music and movies and such but this will be a HUGE improvement and step in the right direction to getting as close to perfect fro you gusys still using factory settings for sound.
There aren't any real numbers to base it off of so you will need to kinda eyeball it with the sliders but it will still get you much closer than factory. Tune it after your intital big change.
Hint for newbs.... To play with EQ take ONE SETTING at a time and move it all the way up and see how it changes the sound, now move it all the way down and see what it sounds like. Move back to original place and adjust from there now that you know what the two extremes are. Do this with each slider and youll get it to where YOU want it.
Please leave feedback and or any other hints of tweaking for others as the factory settings are truly utter crap! Maybe we should make a new thread if this turns out well? -
Thanks I'll give them a try.
Which laptop audio system do you prefer, JBL or Klipsch?
