Another day stuck in the COC. So which computer is the flagship of the AW line? Im thinking the M17x (I might be a little biased). Or the M17. Other than the fact that I own a prety high spec M17x Im also inclined to vote for the M17x due to its dual 9800m Gt's,and the fact that it is a proprietary chasis were the M17 is a white book with a nice paint job However the M17 does have a quad core and DDR3, mmmmmmmm......![]()

m17. m17x is full of old components.
-
Yup M17. Newer technology, newer chip, higher bus, ddr3.
If the m17 gets the 4870 it will become the flag ship of all notebooks -
The M17 is the flagship laptop. As mentioned above, it has the newest, most current tech. of any of the laptops offered by A.W.
With that said, the 17X is no slouch. It is more than capable of tearing up your favorite games with speed and style.
Here is a link to a post Chaz put together about GPU ranks:

Not sure if it's based on specs or actual gaming performance though. The 3870 drivers have matured quite a bit since his data was posted.
Either way you've got some of the best cards for gaming.
Both rigs will rip through whatever games you throw at them and ask for more. -
m17x is AW flag ship but the best laptop they have is the m17
-
How is the older technology model the flagship? DDR2, no quad option, slow bus? Cmon man, Santa Rosa is last year and montevina is now.. Previous generation vs. current generation platform.
-
Flag ship its what they designed to be the PREMIRE not the best
the m17x was the cure all to gaming when it came out and thats why they were charging 2000 for it .....
the m17 is superior to it i agree but when people think of AW its the m17x
true flagship is gonna be Quicksilver -
Cool, I wasn't considering any of that. I was only looking at their most advanced laptop they offer. to me at least, most advanced=flagship. IMAO
Looking forward to what Quicksilver has to offer. -
thats correct to but i think of flag ships as what they consider premier ....
I have an idea of quick silver .. from what i have gathered ....ill let you know
-
Sweet!
I hope I get a year and a half again before I have to get another rig!
I don't think the wife will let me get another one this soon.
PM me on what you've "gathered". -
Btw, I'm with Rob on the whole idea of a flag ship. Sorry Moo. =( -
-
Even the M9750 was a flagship in his days!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Cool,
Nothin but flagships in my fleet! -
lol yup nice
-
-
Their next flagship model is the one I really want!
-
-
I know! But it's a vicious circle that never ends! I can't stop the ride, help! lol
I'm just looking for my next "fix".
I guess I need to find a rehab center. -
I think you need to just be broke, and I can help with that, transfer ur funds to meee
-
Oh don't worry, I'm there!
I'll have my current rig for a while. -
Hmmm.... Only now do I see the flaw in my plan - the one where I convince the wife to let me drop a boatload of cash on a top-of-the-line gaming laptop by telling ehr "this way I won't have to get a new one for 3 or 4 years!!"
-
I agree with Mr. Moo. The Alienware flagship is the m17x. Just look how Alienware is marketing it. The 9800 GT's are "Alienware's most powerful graphics solution ever!", the X9000 is "The world’s most powerful mobile processor!". More over, Alienware is known for sending a maxed out system for reviewers. The m17 was the only system that wasn't, probably because they didn't want the m17 to beat the m17x gaming scores and they wanted it to look as a "for the wallet" system. Also, they call the m17x "Premiere gaming system" while the m17 is only their "First Alienware with CrossfireX." But we all know, the m17 is the better one, but average users won't know that.
It's all marketing. -
I like to think of it as the competition grade AW. -
Yeah MAG,
Too bad the fastest proc in the 17x is the [email protected].
My lowly M17 came stock @3.06Ghz on the X9100. -
the m17 is the flagship if you go with Quad core and the dual gpu setup (I could only afford the latter but it doubled performance over my m15x) only thing the m17x has going for it is the newer chassis which is somewhat significant as nice as the m17 chassis is. The marketing is certainly biased in favor of the m17x
-
I'm actually glad I got the extreme dual core. I've experienced absolutely no stuttering. I could afford to go with the quad but I preferred the X9100.
As for the chassis, well I also own the m9750 which is almost an identical chassis. I knew before getting the M17 that it had an extremely robust chassis that can handle being tossed around. I also love having a front load optical drive.
Basically I knew ahead of time exactly what I was getting. The same thing I already had and loved, but with the newer Montevina platform, Extreme X9100 proc, faster memory, better GPU's, and the cool lighting.
If they used a similiar chassis in the next gen laptop I'd be in heaven. I doubt they will though.
Anyway, I'm obviously biased towards the M17.
Which one is the flag ship M17x or M17?
