Just wanted to start a quick poll to find out who canceled recently his/her order of the m15x due to AWs seemingly incompetence.

I canceled last week because AW`s poor information policy and the fact that they would have made me waiting 3(!) months since I placed my payment. I want to state that I still think that AW has the best product in this performance segment on the market featurewise and really would have liked one of those m15x. But I can only endure so much mishandeling and think it is a rather a question of principle to make them know that you can`t handle customers that way without paying the price. I got the feeling that there are a lot people out there thinking the same way. So I wanted to know for sure and started this poll.

    Here are the options:

    1) Yes, I canceled

    2) I may cancel soon

    3) I`ll stick with AW, no matter what

There probably ought to be an option roughly stating: "I stuck with them, and I got my system."

I was actually thinking about an option like that but decided against it. This poll is about NOT getting the m15x. Option three is kind of a concession to your concerns.

For those of you who already got the m15x there is already another poll out there...

This poll is not about ranting or anything, but an attempt to gauge how many people are actually disappointed enough by AW to cancel their order. (even with great sadness in their hearts) :p

i wouldnt order one until they are shipping again i think its the best way to do things atm. I forget who but there was a user who's purchased a laptop and he had to keep pay the interst on his card or something because he was stuck in payment phase. All i know is no one should have to deal with that so id rather wait than pay to wait. once they get the show on the road and the estimated ship date isnt too crazy ill go for it.

Paen what phase were u in? could it of been possible that it was built but they decided to hold onto it because of the down clocking problems?

I ordered in Europe on the 6th of February with an estimated shipping date of Feb 28th. Last time I checked they were out of parts until begining of April which would be a shipping around END of April. Thus I had to face three months of waiting. (Not to tell about me following the development of the m15x since November 07) On top of that there were the thermal issues with the m15x which seem to be on a good way to get solved, but still...

There has to be a unit shipped in Europe yet. As far as I know they got the money of lots of people and weren`t even able to provide the product to begin with.

I was in phase 5 btw.

well I suppose if you want to bolster profits, its a good idea to get lots of Full payments 3 months before you send out a machine. lets see
say 100 people ordered at an average of £2000 uk sterling

they have the money 2 months before they receive the parts
they demand a discount from their tardy supplier
they dont pay their supplier for another 2 months (60 days average)
so they have the customers' money for 4 months and get parts at a reduced rate........

Its terrible customer service, but makes for a great cashflow sheet.

at the end of the day, I would still love to have such a smart looking machine sat in front of me, although now I am used to 17" notebooks, it would have to be the m17x :)

i actually thought about cancelling since it seems like the machine had a lot of problems and they will also take 2 months to ship out the laptop for me. i decided not to cancel after i saw the overheating issue which was the biggest factor me get fixed. if i were to cancel now it would also cost me 50 more bucks if i were to reorder since the battery is 150 now. since i already waited a month i think i should be able to wait the last month.

I unfortunately cancelled my order after following the advice on this forum although not all the advice.

I basically went out and bought a Voodoo Omen desktop system painted and tatooed specially for myself and it is great. The customer service was great and the forum was very welcoming too and they even ordered a special tatoo for my omen even though they dont tatoo the desktops.

Then I went out and bought a macbook Air for my job as I need OSX. The desktop is purely a gaming/entertainment thing but for serious stuff I need to use OSX as it requires far less tweaking/maintenance to get things to work.

However I really liked the Alienware M15X and I really am happy for those who got it, it just wasnt for me as I was just going to game at home and didnt require the premium of the portability.

Its interesting how this poll turns out. Didn`t expect it to spread out so evenly. This should be also an interesting read for Alienware managers.

If this would be representative (which it isn`t, I know) AW lost a third of its customers with another third on the verge of canceling. No good business. Their own policy is hurting them defenitely. Every businessmen at AW should hear an alarm sound in his bankaccount...

AW change your business policy or get some decent CEOs!

    @BOFH1971

hehe nice analysis of an possible stratagy...

    greetings,
    Paendrag

Edit: Now it seems to be 50-50. Guess makes no sens to presume anything before this poll had some time to develop...

LOL I know its kind of funny the speculate on why they do it, but its also a shame
    why alienate customers.......oh wait.........Alienware :) LOL

but seriously they have no idea how gutted I was at the outcome.
if it had said pre-order on the website I would have waited and ordered later, but it said they were available to order now on the website ... thats whats wrong.

obviously people who pre-ordered the wii/ps3 etc had money on the product well before launch (espeically with their delays) but oftentimes it was just a deposit, which is much easier to live with.

I did suggest this to alienware by the way

I always wait, based on previous experience I don't wanna be the guinea pig. So when I saw all the issues.. I never ordered one.. so they lost my money there, since I am now awaiting the new platform. And that might be the new E series from Dell, Sony ( depends on their new design), but to be honest I hope AlienW comes out with a new design by mid summer.

i doubt alienware will come out with another laptop by summer especially since summer is around 3 months away and the m17x hasnt even launched yet.

Perhaps they can deliver in time then, because they will not sell as many..
Other laptops: 8 g ram as standard on most laptops, smaller, slimmer, better cooling..

So either they should wait for Centrino 2 or leave it

I have yet to see 8 gb as a "standard" for RAM in notebooks. Heck, not even two can be considered as "standard".

Smaller, slimmer, cooler. Yes. You are talking about office-laptops. But the m15x is no mere office laptop.

I agree that they would have sold many more units of m15x if they had only sticked to their own scedule...

And yes, another case design is highly doubtful. They just introduced the ripley-design and like somebody already said: the m17x hasn`t even launched yet .

i voted i may cancel soon.
as a new member on here i havnt been waiting anyway near as long as a lot of you on this forum. ive only been on phase 4 for 2 weeks now so i can imagine how frustrated you must all feel after ordering your system months ago.

just out of interest, how many of you have received an email from AW
as it states on their order status page "In the rare occurrence that a PC component is not readily available, you will be notified via email".

to be honest it would be nice to receive an email offering some sort of accessory from their shop as an apology for the delay. waiting for customers to phone up to cancel and then offering them a back pack and some games is almost a sign of desperation. they certainly wouldnt lose any money doing this as they are making a nice profit from the interest on all our £2000+/$4000+

does anyone think things have changed since dell took over AW

fingers crossed that production will resume very soon.

    i should be so lucky.
ive not actually rung them up yet to cancel but was only thinking about it if it takes much longer.
a few members on here have stated that they have been offered backpacks, free games and upgraded postage was mentioned.
i think you need to speak to Gladys in the cancelation department at AW.

as a new AW customer i am amazed at how many complaints there has been and not just for the m15x.
i heard so many great reports about AW and that is why i decided to go for the rolls royce of computers. its not until you find a forum like this one that you notice they sound just like all the rest except for the price which is a lot higher.

I cancelled mine about a week or so ago. So glad I did because now my new system should come either tomorrow or the day after. Just couldn't take the frequent delays and I got worried after reading so much in here, haha.

Oops, I guess I forgot that. Well I still got Alienware. Just the m9750 instead of the m15x. It's the one in my signature. Hoping I made the right choice and everything, haha. If not then oh well. I don't really know all that much about gaming laptops and stuff but I have the money to spend so I thought I might as well. Wanting to become a bit more knowledgable with all this so any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Hey Green,

I have the 2.33 in my XPS system and it has done me well. The 8700 in sli is no slouch and it isn't a hands down winner either. I am sure for that config you will be happy. And I believe the m9750 system will be able to handle the 8800m gtx later on down the road.

Anyways gratz on your system and I hope you enjoy the hell out of it.

im the last person to ask about gaming laptops as i dont use my systems to play games. a few people have mentioned for me to change the 8800gtx for a lower spec but as it comes with the m15x as standard i might just keep it just in case like you i decide to take up gaming.the way i see it is its always worth having just in case i use it. the main reason for use for me is digital video editing and also dj use.

    @poll

interesting development of this poll. I think AW lost a lot of customers due to its information policy and its slack in production...too sad.
