My M17 is only a week old, I wouldn't consider it... Yet.

But if other people have tried 'em and it runs like cake, then prolly.

If I get a good price for the 3870s (I don't think so^^), I would be more intrested in the 4870s ... but as far as it looks like one 4870 will not be mutch faster than 2x3870s ... there is not so much "force" in me to buy this card^^

    Greetings

I've gotta say, I think it will be awhile before any notebook card crushes Crysis. And by the time one can, Crysis won't be standard anymore. I'm not going to get the cards right when they debut. Gotta let a few of the big ballers get the stuff and see how it works for them first.

I'd pay good money for some big 'ole aftermarket heatsinks for the M17. There's a lot of room for improvement in there. The 4870s are going to make some heat, too.

Im just going to buy them when they come out, I have an overheating m5750 that has a hard time keeping good framerates on WoW and cant play 3d games in certain room temperatures without artifacting and needs a notebook cooler and needs the performance settings set to max battery to stay cool.

OMG YES! My hands wont sweat over my keyboard when i play WoW lol. I dont need to wait for the 4870s to be tested, im just going to buy em :D! Im getting a QX9300, 3 gigs of RAM, and dual 4870's, which certainly beat a Core 2 Duo 2.0GHZ, 1 gig of RAM, and an x1800.

I could say I have 200+ fps :p everyone on my wow server always complains about low fps, and a couple people say how they have 60-90 fps, I could smash those framerates with 200+ fps :D!

I run with vsync on so I get 60 solid; however, it does drop down to 30-40 at times... I would imagine this is not normal then?

To be honest, when it drops, it feels more like my RAM/HDD is accessing though, and not my video cards slowing down.

Yeah, I understand that it will render more fps; however, I don't like the screen tearing. Do keep in mind that I think it's my RAM or HDD that's causing the lags, so I don't think toggling vsync to 'Off' will give me any success.

Regardless, I will try that when I get home and will let you know... Thanks!

Maybe it's just me, but I love the smell of new computer hardware. My M17 had that smell when I pulled it out of the box, like a video card fresh out of the anti-static bag.

    Hi All

I will upgrade only if the difference in performance between 3870 and 4870 will be significant, lets say 25%. IMHO It won't be worth it if the difference would be like 8800m gtx and 9800m gtx (couple of framerates)

    Cheers

    Luke

Well the 4850 is better than the 9800gtx so I'm guessing the 4870 is going to be alot better

I wouldn't say it's better. We have only one guy with MSI 725 here on NBR. And so far he benched only FC2 and Crisis. And yes, the results look promising. I would say its more like inbeetween 9800m GT/9800m GTX, but it's a bit too early to judge. Time will tell.

    Cheers
