I will be.
-
GREAT i know u know what ur doing
-
I am yet to decide, cant afford anything more than base config, but that should be good enough for me. Again the base config looks like an NP8662 in 17", with extra $$$ for the lights and brandname (also P8600 and 2 GB extra RAM). hmm...
-
If my company does well over the next couple of months I think I will buy one. So I will try to have one in hand about 1 -2 months after release. J
-
I will be getting a new laptop in August. This just jumped to the top of my list.
-
I will
..not sure how soon xD -
Hmm. I'm wondering now if I shouldn't have ordered that M17 just over a week ago.
Then again, I wouldn't be able to afford much more than the base configuration, and considering I'd need a Q9000 in there, and would want more powerful graphics...
Plus, with the upcoming 4870s for the m17, I'm not too disappointed. (And it's thinner and lighter) -
yea the m17 is still a GAMER rig for sure
i just need to adjust my prioritys
-
dual gtx280m is very nice but when the m17 gets the 4870's i dont think this m17x refresh is anything special. its a matter of what company u like, ati or nvidia.
I dont get in the specs why they say its uses ddr3 1333 ram when no mobile cpu has a native fsb that high. We know you can USE the 1333 ram but it wont use that speed ever. -
yup and i want to keep my m17 but i need the battary life of the m17x and i really haven't used my m17 as much as i thought so thats why i am switching
i still think the m17 is getting 4870's -
I might be getting one if I can use the 5-10% student discount from dell for it
Though if so I'll get it in July/August depending on cash-flow and what price the upgrades are in the *new* m17x
-
It's been confirmed that the M17's getting 4870s at least as far as I'm aware.
But still, dual 280Ms is really nice (for those who can afford it, that is.) -
yay i get to use the student discount as well
-
1. Does the discount work for high school students?
2. WHY IS THE LID SHAPED LIKE A TRIANGLE?!?! -
You guys will need to get your ducks in a row if you want to be the first ones ordering on tuesday. My gf still works in Billing though, so if you have any questions about AVS documents, wire transfers, CCs and whatnot... Just fire away!
-
no it does not work for high school students.....
2 because its made that way -
Well they won't get my business then. Horrible on Alienware's part.
Why the would they call it STUDENT discount if it's not for STUDENTS? -
? i dont think they want a high school students business.
-
It's called "Alienware University" on their web page.
-
How much is the student discount? I'm not a student but I'm related to a few.
What other discounts can I be looking into? -
well with dell taking over their is said to be some new discounts moving in
right now
military
student 5%
business -
Dell offers 7% for students on their site, as well as more frequent sales and free shipping offers. Dell also allows combining some discounts, like the higher ed discount and free shipping, while AW has not allowed more than one to apply to the same order.
-
What info do you have to provide for student discounts?
-
Free bump for you Moo, I liked the guides you put up for my M15x... Times are hard but I hope you will get offers. I was so fortunate to get my G50Vt-A1 sold at a very respectful price.
-
All Dell and AW require is a valid student email account. I have never been asked for any additional information.
-
good think is i have that
-
I'll be ordering one on the Tuesday, as soon as it's released. Probably going to getting one of the higher end specs on it, or so is the dream. Constant page refreshes are in order.
-
Actually one Q, Moo, not sure if we can replace the cover of OCZ Whitebook with the Alienware Skullcap which is available online, making it LOOK like M17. Let me know if you know the answer.
-
yes you can do that
-
that's been done before (ichime?), no problem.
-
ha finally beat Whizzo
-
gah, you did too. +rep if i can for no reason
EDIT: shame, gotta spread the love. -
lol you dont rep very often then
i rememeber the last rep and that was a while ago -
I just got back from Alienware's HQ down the road here in Miami, looks like they will be having an ALLPOWERFULL event later on, I plan to attend
And selling off my Studio 17, and getting the all powerfull, as my Main desktop replacement
I don't think a car battery would last 2 hours hooked up to this thing Anyways I will post some pics later on and an Unboxing since I already placed my order at the HQ in person.
I will pick it up myself no need for shipping should have it early unless some website gets it before and has the pics under embargo -
thanks alot
the laptop will last awhile on the 9400 gpu
probably 2:30 -
-
It's only a 9-cell battery this time. M17x and M17 both had 12-cell.
Makes me miss a smart-bay even more. -
o my bad i thought the m17 had 9 cell my guess is 2 hours max
-
more like it, yeah. course, it's a DTR, so...

So the GPU still being the only difference from the M17? I was hoping for more, oh and you forgot the edge to edge LCD.
-
it is the ONLY difference and the Slot loading ODD
-
I will have more info about this on Monday I think... -

I'm just waiting to see what the other screen options are, and what the upgrades will cost. With my budget, it looks like I can live with the base specs, but they are improved from other Dell/AW options. 4GB memory saves me a trip to NewEgg, and a 250GB 7200 HDD is not bad. I can add a faster SSD for the OS later and the 250 will hold media/games just fine.
I hope the base screen isn't a 1440x900, but that's what I'm expecting (every article so far only mentions "up to" 1920x1200). What I would like to see in between is either a less expensive 1920x1200 (under $200; $100 would be better) option and (just wishing, it won't happen) the 1920x1200 daylight viewable screen that Dell offers in a 15.4", but for the 17" size. The only edge-to-edge screen I find truly tempting is the RGB LED screen on Dell's 17" workstation model. I do enough video and photography to be tempted by the wider color range (and if the Allpowerful disappointed, a refurbished M6500 was my plan "b"). -
I still think the 9 cell battery of the Allpowerful is a huge drawback. Yes, it's a DTR, but there are people like me that will want to game places with it without having it connected to a wall.
Imagine it. An M17 on full load lasts just over 40 minutes. This thing, with 280Ms (which use 85W compared to the 3870s 55W) and 25% less battery capacity...you won't even be able to put it on full load for half an hour, and I don't even think you'll get 45 minutes of game time. Even running it on the 9400M, I don't think it'll last long.
This actually makes me glad that I ordered my M17 and didn't wait to see. I will be taking this thing to school (especially when I get into the higher years in a year's time) and working on it, and 2 hours of work time is decent. And it's lighter and thinner... -
you do not game battery its a given
Who is getting the *new* m17x thread
