I play WoW,put everything on full settings, and i get 70-80 FPS like he describes here. I don't really notice any slowdown in shatt, as he describes, which is funny because I play on a high pop server (Stormreaver).

I have not had any issues with SLI and WoW. I use SLI with no issues.

From your description, maybe you have a single defective card thats creating issues? Kinda strange.

I know it's not a faulty card because other games that do support SLI run flawlessly. Strange that you don't have the same experience, you never notice that lag/delay when you suddenly turn your camera around?

depends on the game you playing... because if you were to play Wow then even with full setting it still looks very cartoony. but if u were to play COD4 from what iv seen its generally look like the xbox 360... well no i lied it looks better...

The graphics I've seen on my m9750 with SLI'd 8700's is better than xbox 360 - about on par with PS3.

so in a basic form just like bulleted pro's and con's whats the difference between the 7950gtx's and the 8700gt... i see posts but they are a mile long and im just starting to get a hang of computers so i get lost in it all lol. Also i really don't do much next-gen gaming maybe COD4... can the m9750 play them.. its not like im playing crysis

The bottom line is that the Go7950GTX is a superior card - the GPU guide should detail some things for you. The Go7950GTX has bested the 8700M-GT in all of my testing and that of member's.

sli is great, when it works. the two games i player right now, sli is driving me insane. turning off sli and running with one 7950gtx is simply not enough power to play eve online and supreme commander at high settings. with sli on i feel like it is the power of an 8800 gpu, easily.

although sli gives almost double the fps, the drivers are so finicky that i am considering returning the laptop. it's great that supreme commander runs smooth ar max settings with a ton of units on the screen, but the speradic slowdowns that bring the system to a halt for no appearant reason, and then recovers from this sputter, is too much to bear. it almos makes the game un-playable. i have tried so many drivers out there and it's always the same damn sputtering. i don't know, is it some bloom effect or some kind of explosion that the sli driver does not agree with and decides to almost hault my gameplay while it tries to recover? i have to fight with this everytime it occurs, trying to pan the camera in hopes it becomes unstuck....

i fight with the same thing in eve online....60 fps and then all of a sudden down to 3 fps and me panning the camera frantically in hopes it recovers.

this is my first dwell into the sli world and, even though it virtually doubles my fps, it also makes it unplayable with these stutters and finicky drivers. at first i thought the system was overheating and causing the gpu's to downclock. but this is not the case, after close examination.

You might want to try XP , since your cards are DX9 anyway.
My point is, if you don`t have at least an 8th series card, don`t bother using VISTA just yet.

This night, I've played DOD Source in 1920x1200 resolution, everything high, AF16x and AA 4x, and it goes between 90 to 110fps... and it was beautifull ! :p
I have some benchs to do, with and without SLI, with FarCry, Half Life 2 (+ EO + ETwo + LostCoast), UT3, Quake4, Company of Heroes, Crysis, TMN & U, so I can then know how much is SLI gain, with each Nvidia drivers from 167.43 to 174.40...
(PS : I 'm on XP, not Vista, so it's more easy managing SLI)
    (PS2 : i'm very happy with my M9750... ;) )

i am on xp as well.

and there is no point in comparing older games like dod source, or any source game for that matter because a single 7950gtx runs them at high.

Yes, but SLI's improvement is here, even in old game :
    I've try Fraps Benchmark (min/max/avg) in DOD:S
    With SLI off : 69 / 91 / 80.9fps
    With SLI on : 75 / 142 / 107.52fps
    Avg gain : 33%
And I have to bench many other games, like Crysis, Q4, UT3, FarCry, COH, Prey...
But fot HL2 multiplayer games, it's very pleasant ! :D

lol man, you are playing older games that a single 7950 can easily handle.....

the problem for me is the finicky sli drivers on new games like eve online with it's premium graphics client and supreme commander. i did not want to buy a new notebook to be playing these games at med to low settings otherwise i will continue playing them with my current D900T laptop.

i will be returning the laptop and will face about a $400 dollar restocking fee.

Yes but i ran many other, and you have to wait to see difference using SLI or not... ;)
And I've just wanted to say it's very pleasant to play at 1920x1200 resolution : I came from oldest compaq N610c (P4 1.7ghz, 1GO RAM, Ati M7500)... So difference is biggest for me ! :D
If you plan to game with next generation games, you should wait for next M17x... or better one.

well if it matters any i figured out my fps crashes was related to not having vsync enabled in supreme commander. when that is enabled all is fine, although i do get a 25% performance hit with it enabled.

went to my brothers house to do direct side by side comparisons and becnhmarks with his desktop rig. he has a c2d e6300 @ 1.8ghz and 8800gts 320 graphics card. his cpu is stock speed and his gpu is bios-flashed to the OC (overclocked) version that you can purchase from various vendors. the only difference was his monitor was only a wsxga (1680x1050) resolution which he ran at that and he did not run vsync on since he does not need to (and i do otherwise my fps crashes as mention above).

he got 37.6 average fps compared to my 33 fps average. now, i did not overclock my graphics cards so i am fairly certain that i can match his average fps if i do. i then loaded up identicle saved games with fraps running in the backgroun to see how our systems performed side by side. suprisingly i was getting 50% more fps while the camera was zoomed all the way out, and he started to pull slightly ahead when the camera was zoomed all the way in a certain spot.

both our monitors supported 1600x1200 resolution so we set them at that and the in-game fraps bench was virtually tied with me still having higher fps when camera zoomed out. so i was very please with the resutls. an sli 7950gtx 512 laptop can go head to head with a desktop 8800gts 320 card.

so i am deciding to keep the laptop since it has proven itself to be as fast as an 8800 gpu, which i thought it would be in the end. sli still needs ways to improve and i hope it does. sli laptops can only get faster from here.

The m15x has wayyyy too many problems. I'm fine with my m9750, but if I didn't have it, I would NOT buy the m15x...I'd wait for the m17x, or buy one form a competitor. The 8800m is every mobile gamer's dream right now, but the laptop it's in still has to FUNCTION PROPERLY. The m15x has too many issues to justify investing in it at the moment, in my opinion.

well, after more consideration i have decided to return the m9750. sli is too finicky to be relied on. i also over-estimated the power of one 7950gtx, which i was relying on to play my games at high settings but this is not the case, unfortunately.

oh well, restocking fee for me :(

it's too bad, the case and port location of the m9750 is the one i like the most. all other 17" offerings do not even compare in this department. too bad arima is not refreshing this model to accept the 8800 cards. it really needs it.

@Alienware/user - That is a fine deal. The M15x has a newer processor and a newer GPU so you don't have to worry about SLi. However you have to worry about downclocking.

@Everyone - I am so happy that I ordered my M9750. I just took the time to realize that if I ordered the M15x I would have been waiting until late April (maybe even later!) to get a machine that worked properly.

I'm relatively happy I purchased the 9750. Compared to the m15x and it's current problems, I'm glad I purchased the 9750, but damn.. I just wish it was more portable (light and small). Too often when I'm at work, a co-worker picks up my Oddessy backpack and is shocked by how deceptively heavy it is for its size.

I want the power and portability of the m15x with the reliability, color, and style (Skullcap FTW) of my m9750. In regards to the current heat issues of the m15x, I think it's only going to get worse as time goes by and might very well be another m5550 fiasco (ie. heat issues that continue to get worse and are never truly fixed by Alienware).

'Old' is a relative thing - the 9750 is a bit more than a year old on announce and less than 8-9 mos on release? Wait til AW announces their 'next' box later this year, then the m15x will be 'Old'.

My own personal timeframe on changing laptops is every 2 to 3 years. My m9750 has been super reliable and just looks the part - I pulled it out of its case at a club meeting last week just to check connectivity and it suddenly became 'the topic' trumping the table.

So its all relative... the m15x is nice, but I need a larger screen for comfortable programming work. The m17x is delayed. My only hesitation was motherboard and CPU family... but heh, I know I'll probably end with the 'next' AW laptop in 2009 after those bugs are worked out.

Because you are stuck with your m15x doesnt mean you need to let everybody experience your heating problem, besides SLI 7950GTXs are an Equal to your 8800GTX at any game right now.

I am pleased with my M9750. I think it's the last and best AW laptop design ever. A lot of times everything will start to look more uglier and more weird. As for speed I don't care much I use it as a everyday desktop and is fast enough for me. All games run smoothly and no problems besides drivers and patches on some games. So far i'm happy that I made this choice. Sooner or later you won't be able to buy it new. I did a little comparison with my brothers M15x and I really can't tell too much of a difference in speed and performance. M9750 all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am quite disagree with brainer, in shadows-heavy games 8800m GTX will blow SLI 7950 GTX completely.
However, I was lucky enough to play around on my friend's m9750, I have to say it has the best 17" desgin so far.

m9750 has the best design and port layout by far. too bad they could not refresh the model to accept new tech, it really kills it because of that.
