I want to get the m17 but Alienware is so Expensive, just configuring it with the 1920 res and dual 3870s would cost over £1,500 and thats leaving all other options as default - 2GB ram and very weak processor that is just way too expensive, i really want the m17 - the lid is really nice and that would be so cool to show off![]()

well what did you expect? it's a very high-end system...
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
true it might be high end, but £1,500 for nearly everything at default with just the dual 3870 and 1920 res is just too expensive, im sure i could get a good w90 for that much
-
You pay alot for the name
Check out the 9262 (which it seems you have)
the 5762 and the OCZ might be worth a look or the new big Asus -
maybe you want to have a lot at the msi gt725?
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah i have the NP9262 which im selling, im looking for something new was thinking about the W90 but with all the problems people have had as well as the size has put me off of it and was thinking about the OCZ but no one sells it in UK so it would cost just as much if not more getting it from the US
-
I think AW isn't that expensive ... when you buy the system from e.g OCZ you don't save that mutch ...
And why do you realy want to go with the 1200p LCD?
The 1440x900 gives you the possibility to buy the crossfire and the T9400 for 1,505 pound.
Greetings
Julian -
the asus is an 18 incher though, the m17 is a 17 inch, therefor more compact, and miniturisation cost's more. The m17 is extremly cheap for an alienware product (granted it's an OCZ product) but it's defo a good deal
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
its not a good deal when it cost £1,500 for just the dual 3870 and the res which seems expensive in it self, £163 seems to me a bit too much

Greetings

Hi
U see... I'm from UK and faced similar dilema 3 months ago.
But when U compare other gaming solutions availabe in here M17 is really good chice (Paid 1800 & a tad for mine)
U can get:
Similar speced M1730 9800 GT SLI for about 1800 quid (2000 quid with 9800GTX SLI) 'old tech'
Clevo D901C 9800 GTX SLI, around 2500 quid (except desktop CPU, above Dell is a lot better deal) 'old tech'
M17 like mine 1873 quid
EDIT: don't look at it like the components are expensive. U're not buying RAM or HDD from Alienware, but the whole system. And this one is quite competitive pricewise.
Cheers

yeah i guys im going to have no choice but to spend big
but i like my money, dam should have chosen a cheaper hobby and obsession
but calling 9800m GTX SLI old tech? aint they the fast graphics cards around at the moment? -
No offence D901C owners
Cheers
Luke -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
its what i have and it runs perfect, sure its quite old (chassis wise) i wouldnt say the tech inside it is old
-
And besides, U should wait for 4870 to come out on M17.
Cheers
Luke -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
well i dont have the 9800m GTX SLI
i have the 8800m GTX SINGLE
so i think it would be more of an increase, any idea when the 4870 are out? -
3870CS is not that kind of a performance jump over single 8800M GTX to justify 2000 quid IMO. And then U would have to pay for 4870 upgrade (If it will be possible), so it's worth to wait.
Cheers

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah ill most likely wont be buying for like a month or 2 any way
-
smart move lol .. i just needed one now
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
any idea how much it will be compared to 3870? you start with one 3870 and it costs £202 for the second, i hope it wont be too much for 4870x2
-
well you will be buying 2 new card that were just released ... and AW is the only one i know of thats has it confirmed so it could be a pretty penny
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
AW is actually very competitive if you don't load up on their overpriced components.
A barebones Xfire 1920x1200 OCZ is $1699 via Newegg with nothing in it except the stock DVDRW.
For $1849 @ AW, you get a 1920x1200 Xfire unit with a P8400, 2gb of memory(!), and Vista Home Premium which is not bad at all along with the AW finish.
I said it a long time ago, but with the M17, AW is actually competitive (or was till the fall out over the OCZ thing).
and remember their award winning service and support -

And maybe, just maybe, notebook components will someday be a bit more standardized so that this guessing game will be a thing of the past. Like CPUs for instance...if you have the corresponding socket, the CPU fits. -

do you have Multi-core processing on? as that seems to hit my FPS big time when playing with that on -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah i have that on. why turn it off?
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
no i was just curious, i get like 30'ish get really bad stuttering at points
would you mind having a another run through with it off? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
No problem. i'm just playing with my drivers real quick so give me a few minutes. what settings you have it on. and what res do you run it at?
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
thanx. i have it on all high with the default res but with the Multi-core thing on i get really bad stuttering, it can become unplayable
but with it off and all other settings the same it runs perfect
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
do you know what fps you are playing.
right now i'm having a driver problem i cant fix
but i'll do the test n post it later on -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan

-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Sorry i'm having a huge driver problem. nothing wont install. but it's me. i'm going back to 8.12 e-wrecked. the first benchmark i did was the with win7 beta.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
no problem, any idea why yo uare having so much trouble?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well i'm using windows 7 beta and custom mod drivers. the old ones work great but 9.1 and 9.2 is giving me trouble. right now i have about 8 driver kind of drivers. 5 9.2's and 3 9.1's and 2 8.12's. and messing with them. it's my fault.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Ok i fixed it but hadnt had time to do it. i got 62fps average. on left 4 dead with the multicore off.
Why - O - Why, Are They So Expensive :(
