Ha, great post. The warranty is excellent, the service is above average, and the quality of the product is great.

P.S. You forgot to mention Alienware will also replace your system with a brand new system of equal or greater value if they can't repair it, or you're within the 30 day return period, usually without question (at least for American customers). I've experienced this first hand a few times: once with an Aurora desktop after a five minute phone call, and three times with various laptops over the past few years. One time, the replacement literally arrived the next day - I was shocked. But, I do live like one State away from the regional distribution center.

'sniff' 'sniff' Hmmmmmmm ...................... Fie fi fo boom I think I smell a troll in the room. :)
It is either that or someone a little misguided by the excessive claims made by advertising. Someone who might believe that when a car maker says its new four door sedan 'provides sports car like performance' must mean it has the same performance as a true sports car.
Sadly not all advertising can be believed.

Probably also collateral damage from Alienware desktops, as those are indeed overpriced for what they offer. So most people probably just assume the same about the laptops without bothering to do any research.

Allenwarez is overpriced and like a pos. Look at this pimipin' desktop that you can build for under $4000. It's got a 4770K which is totally awesome cuz K stands for killer amirite. And you can overclock to like 5GHz or sumthing. Den you have the 780 Ti which is CLASSIFIED. I mean Ti obviously stands for Titanium so the cooler is made of motherfreaking TITANIUM so you know it's quality. And it's CLASSIFIED which means it runs so good the official numbers are CLASSIFIED. Ram is from GSkill, and you can't spell Skillz without GSkill, so you know it got mad skillz. SSD is like 1TB the biggest on the planet right now, and it's got EVO in its name so it's like a Lancer EVO which means it runs TURBO 24/7. The case is from COOLer Master so you know it's totally COOL and is master at keeping your warez COOL so you can be the COOLest kid on the block. PSU is platinum rated so it's like you it runs so good you can dip it in platinum and it will still run. And finally we have the 4K LCD which has like double pixels over 1080p so like you can see everything in twice the detail and you can play games in Super+ mode (it's only unlocked if you have 4K LCD, if you have cheap 1080 pixels you will never see this mode in games).

But if you buy crappy Allenwarez $4000 will only get you like 4910MQ which is obviously uncool coz M stands for mediocre and Q means Qehote like Don Quehote which basically means retarded. Then your GPU is 880M which is totally lame because M means messed up. And you have only 512GB mSATA SSD which is pointless coz mSATA stands for mundane Speed And Transfer Attenuation, which is fancyspeak for "it's slow as ****". So basically for $4000 you can get a killer awesome desktop or a totally uncool and slow Allenwarez. Your pick.

Jesus, I'm gone for a year and a half and we're still having this argument lmao

I used to try and justify my preference for AW with the obvious benefits: build quality, performance, warranty, etc... But really, who cares if it costs more than the competition? You'd think bang for buck is all NBR users care about with how much this argument gets tossed around, but it's complete BS. If all we cared about was value, we'd all be running mid-range gaming desktops and would never consider a gaming notebook. If you own a 2 or 3 or 4 thousand dollar notebook, you couldn't care less about value. It's about having the best that money can buy. I wish we'd stop trying to justify our purchasing decisions to people who question us and tell the naysayers to _ off.

As a former MSI and Asus owner, I don`t care about brands.
I just pick what I feel are the best for my criterias. Its all about the total package, not the name.

AW18 was by far the greatest at the time I bought it so thats why I bought it. This might change when next line of notebooks is launched.

Thanks bud, been doing pretty well. Been spending wayyyy to much money on the desktop lately lol, I'm working on downgrading a bit and selling some extra water cooling stuff and my tri sli 780 HOF setup for a couple of 290xs. I love how cheap these cards are nowadays :D

Hoping I can get another AW sometime pretty soon. Nothing too crazy, probably just an AW 17 once high end Maxwell is out. I've been missing my old M18x r2 :(

I see you and Mr. Fox both upgraded to 780ms. That must be an awesome setup :)

Thanks bro! Glad to see you guys are still holding down the AW fort :D

Some people think that paying $1350 for an Alienware 14 with a GT 750m is acceptable.

    Delusional. Stop overpaying for Alienware.

Just stop with the trolling, why don't you? - people have TOLD you 'why Alienware' is the choice for THEM multiple times now....if you choose to disagree, that is your right to do so...but antagonising and trolling is NOT going to get you anywhere except banned from the forum. Sit back, take a chill pill and stop worrying about what other people do with THEIR money.

My advice to you would be to take YOUR money (if you feel AW is over-priced) and go and spend it on something you PERSONALLY feel is 'better value' - and then when it breaks down, and/or overheats like a pig in a fur coat in the middle of the Sahara, and you have to ship it back to whatever manufacturer you ended up buying from - leaving you computer-less in the process - we can all say 'I told you so'.

It's not ALL about the hardware.....it's a whole package deal with Alienware. That is one, if not THE main reason, that many folk choose AW over others.

I'll give you a little example - only the other day, I noticed a slight crackling coming from my speakers...one call to Alienware Tech Support got me a NEXT DAY technician turn up on my door - AT MY HOME. Not only was he sporting new speakers, he also came well prepared with a new motherboard, should that not fix things. The new speakers did fix things, so the MB was not required.....merely the fact he turned up prepared was testament to the level of service offered by Dell.

I doubt you would get that from any other manufacturer.

    lol nice....

I was in a really bad mood when I typed that :p I have been into a ridiculous argument on Reddit for like 3 days with a bunch of morons about Alienware. I seriously give up on that brain dead community, EVERYONE hates Alienware but no one has actually owned one, they all have a friend who's sister's cousin's best friends's room mate had one 15 years ago and it had trouble so they are bad didn't you know!?!?! Oh and build a desktop bro cuz desktop powerful dur, just carry it around everywhere...It was someone around there my mind exploded and I went looking for someone to skin alive haha. It is impossible to have a decent conversation on that website with anyone unless your IN the Alienware sub-reddit and even then there are people that troll.

No point in trying to reason with morons, and it is really a worthless cause anyway... doing so is essentially " casting pearls before swine" LOL. Smug, self-righteous satisfaction in knowing that all Alienware haters can be effectively categorized as imbeciles is a reward in and of itself. They are a great example of what "can't fix stupid" means. They reinforce that fact every time they open their mouths and expose their ignorance. Another famous expression that fits them well is, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Guys just leave him be. The more you feed him, the more he will get off on it. He's in a buyers remorse. He just realised he spent loads on the Razer Blade and is trying to justify it to himself by hating on other competitors. Guess he's just really insecure and timid in real life and needs the attention that he can only get online. Shame really.

My friend has a desktop he brags cost him nearly 7,000 USD over a year before I got my AW 18 laptop (Was from a replacement, special special circumstances, but paid 2,400 total, but got the viking). My laptop still to this day, kicks his' butt. I play 4k res, and still get better frames then he does if he's at 3k-4k. The single only thing he has over me, if his machine boots up faster - but my 4 ssd's overall are much fast then his 4 ssd's. anywyas, the SLI 780m with my 4930xm @ 4.1 ghz kicks in gaming. For a time, I was number one on XTU's bench site for this cpu too. still top 5 a year later..

What kinda desktop does he have for $7000? For that amount of money in 2012 he should be running a 3960X with quad-SLI 680. If his desktop can't match your AW18 then he has done something very wrong. Not meant to be a slight to you, but I would expect a desktop that cost $7000 in 2012 to beat even a maxed out laptop in 2014 into submission.

The thing is the desktops have tarnished the notebooks in some respects, no one else could quite offer what the notebooks did so it justifies having the premium.

I buy Alienware for the warranty, build quality, design, and upgradability. I also treat them like a car and never buy new, so someone else takes the big hit to the wallet. I'm on my fifth now (two M17x's and three M18x's), and all it took was a bit of patience watching Amazon and eBay for awesome deals.
I had to make one warranty claim, and the tech quickly came to my job and worked on my laptop in the break room. Pretty awesome.

I was actually a hater of AW even when i ordered it was quite skeptical. But the build quality of the AW is just awesome, allot better then i expected it to be.
Another thing why i choose an AW over BTO or sager and such is because there is simply more reviews and more positive user experiences.

The first thing that tipped to towards an AW is that it's upgradeable, but i don't know how this is on sager or msi models. My old XPS 17 still runs perfectly fine but it just can't play recent games.
Next time this happens all i have to do is upgrade the GPU.

Yeah, if this is true, obviously he got it from a VERY non reputable builder. Even a maxed out Apple Mac Pro wouldn't be that overpriced for the performance you would get for that type of cash.

As a side note, I find it hilarious when desktop PC enthusiasts lord their higher power ceilings over laptop users. Yeah, you may be able to play Crysis 3 at max settings while I can only play it at medium-high, but I can take my machine anywhere fairly easily. Thats a worthy tradeoff in my opinion.

I love this picture because it perfectly illistrates this point:

Good point but what everyone seems to not remember both require a power socket those big gaming laptops don't last long on battery .It might be more painful taking your pc to a lan party but if you start thinking about it the laptop still requires a mouse and even a plug in keyboard then the power brick most of our gaming laptops worth playing games on are desktop replacements. I have both and gaming on the pc is a far superior experience in my opinion don't have to worry about cooling or notepad cooler but for non gaming purpose the laptop comes into a world of its own for internet movies or word processing

It really all depends. I have had a gaming desktop in the past, and while I like them and still see them as superior in many ways, currently I live a lifestyle where I am moving around a lot (college), and I find the convenience a laptop far more important. Its a beefy 17 inch monster too (Asus G75vx), so I don't have to worry about cooling either. If I am going to some place with limited space or possbly no outlet, I go with my Surface RT 2 tablet. When I am in a less active point in my life I will probably switch back to gaming on a desktop, but for now this is setup is the best for me.

I'm hoping to get myself an Alienware laptop in the near future. I've kinda always wanted one from a long time ago. I was curious as to why the rest of you proud Alienware owners chose an Alienware as your system as opposed to something else?
