For the M17X
edit: Only the 1200p option is available in Australia
Is there any reason why they choose a 1200p screen over 1080 one? I think a 1080p screen would be better because:
- 1200p will mean that text and icons will look really small
- 1200p will mean it will be harder to run high intensive games at native resolution
- 1200p will mean you cannot watch FULL HD (1080) at native resolution
So what is the advantages of having a ridiculously high res screen for a 17"?
I mean I wanna get a M17X when the dual 5870's come out, but I'm reluctant because of retarded screen res that they offer.
Why not a 1900x1080 screen, seriously.....

You can always change res.

MUCH better quality picture with the 1200P. In addition to changing the resolution, if the text and icons are too small for you they can easily be adjusted.

The aspect ratio is 16x10 instead of 16x9. If the screen was exactly 17 inches (14.42" x 9.00"), a similar width 16x9, 1920x1080 resolution screen would be 14.42"x8.10", or 16.53"
So really, for very little change in diagonal screen size, you're getting an extra 11% screen area.
And the 1920x1080 movies will still display at a 14.42"x8.10" height, you'll just get 0.45" (60 pixel) black bars at the top and bottom.
Note: Not sure of the exact screen size of the laptop. -
I WISH they had 1920x1200 for 15" ... am I dreaming?

Smaller font at a higher res is not a big deal for me. The gain in image quality, overall desktop space for windows, icons, etc is well worth it. It's easier to work with the extra room on the desktop.

impruv, I have a 5 year old Dell Inspiron XPS and its a 15.4 inch screen and has the 1920x1200 pixel resolution. It was $4600 5 years ago lol.

Trust me, dual 5870's will have no issue running games at native resolution at all.
Why a 1200p screen?
