Just wondering why the delay with the M15x but the go ahead with the M17x considering the bios is set up for 5870 option in M15x

I too am waiting for Alienware to offer the 5870 in the M15x but doubt its going to happen anytime soon. They probably don't want the m15x to compete with the M17x

They recently updated the m17x with new gpu's so I think they are working on the m15x now.
Maybe alienware does not want their m15x to compete with the m17x, but if they want to compete with every other brand out there, they have no choice but to put in the new gpu.
Afterall, I though alienware stood for the newest hardware and technologies, it would seem weird if they'd run behind normalware laptops like asus or the cheaper boutique brands like sager (and clevo, kobalt) don't you agree?

Maybe they upgrade it to a GTX 285m or 280m.

M17x now only have single 5870 and Dual 4870s as options
I do not think they will officially offer single 5870 to M15x any time soon

Wait all you like but the M15x is not getting 5870's (it's been scrapped).

From my very trusted source ;)

I can tell you that I absolutely LOVE my M15x with 5870, though. Just have to install yourself.

It really is a non issue given the ease of the install and the excellent seller we have for the cards ;)

The 280M vs 285M is a Nvidia joke! not to Flame on Nvidia fans, but if they at least can get the 5870's on the M15x then they better have M17x with 5870's in Xfire!

Just get a M17x R2 with 5870. They eventually will have XF 5870's in the near future.

    Just get it from babyhemi.

Great forum member and thru him you know you will always have good communication if something isn't right.

The only thing with buying from Hemi instead of waiting for rjtech or the like is warranty, Hemi only has a DOA warranty while a retailer might have a 90 day warranty.

It appears that the M15x is the red headed stepchild of the alienware family. No offense to actual red headed stepchildren...you get my drift. :p

    I agree.

For whatever reason, Dell continues to keep the M15x irrelevant.

You know what they say, If you want something done right gotta do it yourself ;)

    Well, that's what I did and I couldn't be happier :D

I still like the old m15x. If it weren't for the hinge I would probably get one. Anyway, people should be glad the Bios supports it and just buy the 5870 from here. Think about it, it could be a lot worse.

Yes, the Area-51 m15x is still, to this day, my favorite AW laptop from a design standpoint.

I would have one too if it weren't for the shoddy build quality.

If they gave the M15x and RGB LED option now combined with the 5870 they would sell a lot more of them. THE RGB LED option on the M17x is generating a lot of sales I think that would have just opted for the M15x otherwise.

I'm sure it will happen eventually. The problem now is that the M17x is only offered with one 5870, so they can't offer the same set up for the M15x from a commercial point of view. Once the 5870 is offered in CrossFire for the M17x, I'm sure it will make its appearance in the M15x.
