Just wanting to hear why you people chose Alienware!
-
Build quality of the M17X R2 is unmatched in today's laptops. Sturdy metal frame which may be extinct now with the discontinuation of the R2. Maybe they will bring it back for the M18X.
Also Dell support which while it has its flaws is still the best in the business by far. Next day parts and as long as you hold your tech's hand, you can usually get your issue resolved.
Aside from those 2 issues, they actually make pretty powerful computers as well. M17X is easily the most powerful rig I've ever owned and can crush most games (once the proper driver support is released - LOL). -
1. Warranty
2. Build Quality and Design - Unmatched. The design is just the best out there.
3. Cooling Design
4. Brand Name
5. Cool Factor
Basically it's like owning the Ferrari of computer, every noob, geek, myself included has been growing up wanting an Alienware. -
a. Brand name
b. Warranty is backed by a company "I" recognize
c. Glitz and glam is what AW is all about, and they sure do look amazing!
d. Price - I haggled alot, and got several if not more hundreds of dollars knocked off my initial price... so in the end, after Taxes and everything, it was about the same as a Sager(Sagers are very plain jane looking IMHO)
e. I have wanted one since I ever heard of 'em -
I agree with the posts below + lots of coupons and ability to bargain with Dell sales crew for good prices.
Also some of their systems are unique. Like the M11x, which for an 11 inch system it can do some pretty impressive things...like over-clock to hell with no problems at all. -
because it has shiny bright lights on it.
-
1200p RGB LED.
5870 xfire.
Red anodized aluminum. -
I got my M17x-R1 for the build quality (the metal frame, and component cooling in particular), and the styling.
I'm (probably) buying an M14x for the performance. There's - that I know of - no 14" notebook with the same specs. -
1. Build Quality
2. Performance
3. Its not a Apple but has the same cool look with performance to back it up.
4. Its not made of plastic
5. Its red, has bright lights when needed, and people rarely know what it is. -

well, I needed a new laptop to replace my nightmare HP dv9000, and it has to be fairly low price ( around 1000usd, or less), light weight, since I'm flying all over this blue planet all the time. GOOD cooling, ofc, I will be able to play some games on it without problems or setting the damn video card on fire.
I almost bought lenovo's ideapad Y460, then I found this forum, read some reviews on m11x and m15x. found a great coupon /deal, then here it is..my very own m11x r2 -
This will be my first laptop and after looking at all the laptops for about a year. I decided on R3 becuase it fits my needs. Although other laptop with similar spec were cheaper they lacked stuff such as hdmi input which was important to me given I'm a student that will move around quite a bit for a couple of years and have a ps3. I cannot buy a tv at this moment.
Another is 17 screen with 3d most are 15 inch. I love 3d movies and games and I guess I seem to be in one of the few who has no eye problem with it. I'm not much of a gamer but I want to try and start playing them so a gaming laptop was a must.
Also the Alienware has style/cool factor/awesome backlit keyboard to go with it.
That's pretty much it. -
My first laptop was a Dell, then a Dell Inspiron modified to be an XPS, then I tackled the XPS line, only to see that line end, and then I started picking up alienwares. But only because they killed my beloved XPS line. I owned every decent XPS system that was worth owning except the very 1st model. So I owned the m170, m1710 (The most beloved XPS system), the m1730, and then I moved to Alienwares. I'm currently on my 5th Alienware at this point

stop lying to yourselves... you chose it for the shiny bright lights...

-
Build Quality (Aluminum), Cooling (920xm), Warranty (Next day in home), resale value, RGB GOODNESS, Upgrade options (8+ cpu, 4 video cards, dual or triple drives).
-
Because it really looks cool in the X-ray machines Monitor at the Airport
-
I always wanted an alienware. Geek dream I guess!
Plus the lights are sexy
And also I dont like when people have better hardware than me, now none of my friends canprove me wrong! -
I chose it because of the legendary cooling, and because it is NOT A MAC.
Besides that, there is the 3d, next-day in house tech warranty, powerful gpu/cpu options, awesome lighting, and general classiness of the whole design. -
-
I bought mine because it looked awesome and seemed to have decent performance. I was a bit disappointed at first, but I'm gonna try overclocking right now to boost the processor, and so far I haven't had any technical issues excluding a nvidia update in the past that made my alienware external monitor not work. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Simple, It was the most powerful notebook in the universe at the time.
-
I would choose alienware if for instance the upcoming m18x laptop would have a stealth mode that would be able to shutdown the sli gpus and use the integrated GPU in the sandy bridge Cpu.
That, togther with the 12 cell battery would mean you would have the ability to use the laptop "in windows" for a very long amount of time.
Speaking of which, is there a m18x thread opened here, cause i dont see any. -
I choose an Alienware because they are a Dell company. And you buy Dell computers for they Warranty and configuration.
Is funny is to see other laptop companies trying to copy the complete care contracts that dell pioneer.
I have 2 M17x one R1 and the other an R3 coming pretty soon, plus i got 7 other Dell laptops in my arsenal. Overall satisfaction cannot be matched. -
In the words of Jeremy Clarkson:
POWER! -
Honestly, i only purchased mine because you get a FREE HAT!!!! ........and the fancy sticker too.
-
I bought 2 m17x r1s a while ago simply for the reason that I could afford them. I have been watching at alienware computers ever since they appeared and I was amazed by how high they were priced but they were hardly available where I live nor could I have affored them back then.
But when they became available here, about 1 year, 1 and a half, I immediatly jumped the gun on them babies -
Just ordered a M17x R3. As others stated, it was definitely to fulfill a longtime dream of ever owning one, but also for many technical and economical reasons:
- Great battery life with the switchable graphics (Some people stating 4-5 hours on the IGP, terrific for a beast like this).
- Great cooling system. My HP Pavilion dv5 can fry an egg and cook breakfast for me on the fly just by streaming a video. I would love to place my fingers on my keyboard without screaming how hot it is.
- Word of mouth saying that Dell is the best out there for their warranties, customer service, and quality control of their machines. While I will reserve this judgment for myself, it's nice to know that colleagues and close friends of mine are having a positive experience with their machines.
- Being able to haggle them down on their price. There's a thread floating around here with instructions on how to do so. Just by calling them, I found out I was able to get the GPU I wanted (The ATI HD6970M isn't available on their Canadian website) and smooth my way into convincing the rep to give me the best savings offered on their website. ($300 CAN off and 5% for being a student)
- After discovering these forums, I found out that you can upgrade components of your Alienware. This was a crucial selling point to me - I like to future-proof my purchases and being able to change the GPU or CPU later on down the road to extend its life by even 1-2 years is, in my mind, major savings.
- Resale value. In the past, tell me that I can resell a laptop for a fair chunk of change after a few years and I'd likely laugh in your face. After reading these forums, I would call you up and extend a much warranted apology.
- These forums. Like I stated, I've always wanted an Alienware, but that's a lot of cash to justify without doing any research. After asking which notebooks to go for, it boiled down to the M17x R3 and the Sager NP8170. These forums hold plenty of information for both models and I spent many hours deciding between the pros and cons.
I almost went with the Sager, but for me, the selling points of the Alienware was the battery life, the warranty, and the keyboard layout. (Not the flashy colours; that's just a bonus. A full numerical pad, THAT'S what I wanted) I could see myself one day going with Sager, with their VERY complete customization and the ability to upgrade components without voiding your warranty, (Think this differs per reseller) but I'll go with something I was drooling over in high school and now can finally have in my hands. You only live once, you know! -
Warranty & worldwide NBD on-site support
Performance
1920x1280 RGB-LED ( a needed must not just for games)
Build quality & design approach
... -
1, The stunning looks
2, The awesome cooling performance
3, The WOW factor
4, The performancr
5, Because it has lights!!! -
I was joking about the lights before, I don't really care about that.
I went with AW for:
- Performance
- Warranty, build quality (I trust Dell).
- No overheats
- I feel its something specifically built for gaming
- Edge to edge screen thingy.
and honestly, AlienFX had no effect on my choice... -
[wife]I got my AW because they support the G*y community!!! Just look at that rainbow colored keyboard!!![/wife]
She thinks she is funny... -
-
She was tryign to be funny earlier today when I showed her a picture of the lappy I am getting and the keyboard was light up like a rainbow.. pretty much she called me g*y... but I guess that is to much for people on here.
She was being sarcastic... I guess over peoples heads... -
Went with the new M17x R3 over the Sager NP8170 because:
1) Better screen
2) Switchable graphics to save on battery life when not gaming
3) HDMI input
4) Wireless Display
5) Better build quality
6) And of course, good price (after talking with a sales rep on the phone for 2 hours)
At first glance, Sagers seem to offer you a better price for the same performance, but then you realize that Sager skimps out on many of the new features that Sandy Bridge has, also the poor stock screen quality. -
Mainly cuz of switchable gpus. And I'm not talking about those weaky gpus. What I mean is REAL gpus that can actually play heavy-duty video games
Secondly, cuz of AAFES, and I'm pretty sure half the R3 crowd would high-five me for this statement
-
Warranty #1!
Nothing even comes close and the mail-in-box service crap that competitors is just that ...crap! They keep it for 4-6 weeks at any given time (at least Asus and MSI did for me). Got fed up with that BS and decided to go AW, which I will be sticking with for life. -
Also, AW (aka Dell) has in-home service, where dudes/dudettes come to your house and can fix your computer if you're in trouble. This is a really neat feature of Dell's service.

Jubei Kibagami Notebook Consultant
Voodooi welcome to the AW club man and Dookie, dudettes...LOL good one
-
i choose AW because
i work almost a year without a decent gaming pc since i left it in my hometown, and have left the gaming scene since
was on a Samsung netbook the whole time - darn thing cant even run diablo 2 well
so since i have the money to spare and i like the idea of gaming where i live currently and my hometown(without using separate pcs) i invested in an M15x
i love this notebook very much and have completed many games on it. best investment i have done in a long time.
its beautiful, its fast, the cooling system is great, the full hd lcd is awesome, DAT PURE POWA
the only gripe i have is about it having only 2 usb ports and it cant be upgraded to a better gpu like 485m -
-
Got one of the last true AW desktops (P2) from Miami...I got in about 3 weeks before it all went officially Dell and the new designs, happy I did, got a nice discount and a solid system for 2300 without monitor.
-
Shiny lights and sexy looks. lol

because m17x R2 attract me , and its trying to se·duc·tive on me~
-
-
I wanted something small that could play games at acceptable levels. I like small laptops so the M11x was exactly what I wanted.
-
That glowing alienhead sucks me in!.......LOL
-
Performance, form factor, appearance. No company is able to fulfill all that requirement (ENVY line is close but fail)
M11x is almost perfect but screen is a little bit too small for long term office use and lack some graphic power. M14x is my saviour. -
I really chose it for the lit-up keyboard, and was cheaper than an apple. (m11x)
