Hello, could somebody explain me why the icore 7 is not available for Alienware m17x, and why GTX280 Sli and Ati Crossfire are not available for m15x? Why they don't let us get the best configuration possible?
    Thank you.

Well with the M17x its a mainboard issue. ie it'll need a new one to take i7's
as for the M15x not having the 280M. I'd say give it time.
Single GPU yes. but is'nt the lappy too small for SLi?

Core i7 processors use a completely different socket, so the M17x would require a new motherboard entirely. Plus, there is no laptop yet in existence with a Core i7 processor and two graphics cards, perhaps it's an issue with it, and many gamers would much rather have a Core 2 and two GPUs than a Core i7 and a single GPU.

Not sure about the 280M and the M15x but it may be thermal limits (doubt it), or compatibility issues (doubt it as scook9 got it to work), or power limits (I think the 280M draws more power than the 260M if I remember rightly, the M15x's GPU socket may only be able to take so much power.)

Timing had a lot to do with it also I am sure. Either way, I would expect to see an i7 M17x relatively soon.

Exactly the reason. There's no power limit, socket limitation or any other thing with the M15x.

I am flattered, but that was really Sleey0 lol

The main reason, is they dont want the 2 models killing eachothers sells, so by keeping them different, users will buy both as needed.

Yeah, the 280 worked fine in the M15x even though the 15 has a stated 65W power limit.

Patience, people. The i7's will be available for the M17x soon enough ;)

Honestly, I'd be way more interested in DX11 CrossfireX GPU cards (or SLI) then an i7...
Either way, let's see if any news come about that as we approach christmas

FWIW, I was looking at the tech specs on the M15x the other day, and I noticed that it's not actually a 65W power limit, it's a 65W cooling limit on the GPU. I guess this means that if you stuff a 280M in there and stress it to the max, it'll be a lot more likely to burn out.
