One, I do love my alienware when it works. Two I do love the screen. I simply do not agree with point of view regarding the good hardware quality. Indeed the topic is that I we love the Alienware products and by god I do love the design of this machine. But does that mean that we have to agree on everything written in here??? I do not believe so. The reason I love the Alienware products in NOT because of the good hardware quality as I do not find that to be true at present time(I hope my replacement will prove me wrong). The reason that I love Alienware is the the hardware profiles as well as the design. Regarding childhood dream etc. well that is up to you to analyze as I left the school of Freuds many years ago :) Also the people in here who love their Alienware, could you please write what kind of system you have in your signature? Just so we know what system you have. A humble request... Besides you all forget the cool thing about how cool it is to shift all the light off and then turn on all the lights in the keyboards while playing scifi games(hopefully I can do that again very soon). Ahhh That is a view to enjoy(like the quasar blue color).

Not being a sycophant, but these really are the reasons I chose AW (except #5). AW's designs have that same appeal, rare on the PC side, that Apple gives their products. Despite some annoying technology issues, their devices make you WANT to use them. If I am going to pay good money for something I prefer having an emotional response on top of my logical choice. Not saying style trumps technology, but (in Tony Stark voice) is it too much to ask for both?

My only real complaint right now is after seeing the RGB LED on a Macbook Pro I was surprised that the one in the M17x has such a red heavy bias. The color balance was damn near perfect on the Macbook

Have you tried calibrating the screen with Joker's profile?

Apple hardware just isn't up to snuff. Their "quality" is really just a ruse. 1 week old iPad completely reset itself on me. I lost everything. Normal restore couldn't fix it. Luckily I knew about emergency restore mode (from when I hacked 2G iPhones to unlock them) and was able to restore that way. Even then, I had to restore again because the Wifi Only iPad said there was no Wifi Hardware installed at all.

Really shoddy equipment masked by advertising/marketing that leads you to believe it is solid hardware.

Also, I have several customers that use Apple computers and those things break down all of the time. Yes, even the latest MacBook Pro.

So all I am saying is "Hardware is Hardware" all computer parts crash/break at some point in time and none is necessarily more reliable than the other. It's just a fact.

Haha you have really bad luck with Apple. :p

In my own experience, I've encounter a wide spectrum of brands. Only three stood out as being reliable for the long haul. Apple, Panasonic toughbooks, and Dell, which of course includes Alienware. I've put a ton of abuse on my M17x and my Apple gadgets in this hot desert place and they keep asking for more.
My Toshiba nearly croaked my first three months here (which was, in fact, what prompted me to buy an Alienware)

Well we can agree that we love Alienware and especially the m17x. I just need to have a machine that works and then I am happy, which I soon will have thanks to Michael Dell(well his secretaries). The best thing is actually that we do not need to exercise as just carrying around is like training to become an ranger :) The keyboard is excellent for programming over long hours as it is big and has the numpad :)

Growing up I always envied the Alienware adverts I saw in PC Gamer,etc.. At that point in my life I was all about just building my own rigs...researching the best parts, watercooling, extreme cooling, etc.....And I still appreciate that stuff but now I just want someone else to basically do the work for me. That's why I bought my M15x. I was fortunate enough that they released the support for some newer GFX cards and did my own upgrade. Alienware to me has always been thought of as la creme de la creme of computer systems whether it be desktop or laptop.

The m17x and m15x is like a transportable desktop(because of the strong hardware profile) and it is nice to have a system with enough math power to take care of more demanding compiling tasks in ones bag :)

Exactly, when I was younger I was reading PCGamer and looking at the AW's ads.. I would go on the website to build my own rig and imagine everything I could do with such a crazy computer..
Few years later, I had the money, and a new computer need, first thing I thought was; wait, I could afford a Alienware :D
Since then it's all about bragging rights :)

    Build quality & reliability.

I've purchased my second AW laptop- the M11X back in Feb. Both it and my first (the Area-51 m5500) are running flawlessly. Back in '05 when I was researching what laptop to buy, I ran across some people who told me not to buy Alienware. I asked them why and they gave me vague answers, which prompted me to look further into AW. Well though I was hesitant to buy, I decided to 'pull the trigger' and couldn't have been happier. :) The m5500 is now running Linux Mint and is my 'Deployment Laptop' for when the Air National Guard sends me on deployments. I'm so glad that Dell/AW decided to create the M11X. It's an awesome little laptop. I almost bought the m3200 back in the day as I wanted something portable for the frequent air travel I do, but decided against it. :)

Indeed you do :) However, under your little laptop's hood you got the power of a desktop more or less :) This is the true power of the Alienware Force. Hence the words "transportable desktop" :D

Better/faster/more powerful than almost all of my friends laptops/desktops only one beats my alienware my buddy with a nice quad-core 5870 setup who scores 19K in 3dMark06 and that gap will shorten incredibly as soon as my second GPU and XF cable get here :) Build quality is in a class of its own, support is awesome I love everything about this Laptop when I use others I constantly miss mine :) and Bragging rights PPL get as green as my keyboard when they see it

the main reason, they truly are the most powerful notebooks in mass production in the entire world. Other then those retarded notebooks with 120 watt desktop processors in them but putting a desktop processor in a notebook is cheating.

I hope the they keep the 16:10 screen for the m17x series, that or offer a numpad for the m15x.

I beat the crap out of my American made vehicle and I only have to pop the hood when its time to change the oil or do scheduled maintenance. I think you're riding the old 80's stereotype for American made vehicles too far.

A constant push for the best hardware possible while simultaneously pushing for a solid laptop with good battery life and suitable for casual use as well. The icon and the attention to style and detail of the brand are big factors as well. Alienware systems have a unique edgy style that also looks elegant unlike any other brands pull off.

I may be wrong here but i think alienware and dell are the only ones risky enought to try and pull off a heavy huge laptop this day and age someting that looks like it would be state of the art back in 1980s and erly 1990s going by weight and all

well not many would try to pull of what aleinware has
