Ok so my wife "acidently" spilled a drop of soda on my keyboard... i freak and thought no big deal. Until my next boot and notice i cant log in, everytime i would hit the C key it would make cap locks come on, then when i hit the any button it would pretty much hit enter on it own so i couldnt even type in my pw to login. I looked on ebay for a replacement and called alienware and they are out of stock... anyone know where else i may be able to find a keyboard for a 51m 5700 or if other model keyboards may be compatible

I can do that but takes the portability of a 17inch laptop and makes it worse. its no big deal i have desktops all over the house.

I checked out that site previously and i looked at the link you just posted but something I noticed earlier when I was just looking to find something compatible I noticed this one had the 10 key also which my current one does not have. Are their any other good alienware forums?

You may want to google something about cleaning laptop keyboards, or search these forums. I *think* I've read about people fixing issues like this, but I am not 100% positive.

Also, could you just call Alienware about a replacement keyboard?

Mosher111, my bro spilled half a cup of orange juice on his laptop. Only like 3 of the keys registered what they were supposed to. I told him to bring it over, and I disconnected the keyboard, ran it under hot water for quite a while, to make sure I got all the stickies out, and then used my wifes blow dryer on it to make sure it was absolutely dry.

...long story short, it works now :D

There are fables of old that mention putting old keyboards in the dishwasher to get them spic' N' span'! ...this is no longer a BigFoot tale of old.

Absolutely serious...What have you got to lose? We actually pulled off every single key and got a somewhat soft dish scrubber rinsed the beast, scrubbed everywhere we could, rinsed again and the dried it off with the blow drier until we were positive it was dry. If it's wet and you send a charge through it, you'll short the keyboard (I don't know, maybe something else too?).

If I were you, right now the keyboard is lost to you, so you might as well try! =D

May the force be with you.

water may not be the best solution
some alcohol (not beer duh! :) ) should do the cleaning job

we once rescued an amiga that had been drowned in cola (switche off) by bathing the motherboard and keyboard in alcohol.

the problem is that the liquid may have shorted the keyboard damaging the keyboard chips.
but the alcohol also dries itself so no need to risk warping the keyboard with the hairdryer.

good luck getting it sorted out.
also check out the manufacturer of the chassis is it an ARIMA one? or something?
they might be able to send you one or direct you to their distributor.
