First thing that would have to happen is a notebook manufacturer builds a laptop that uses one of those cards. Then you have to hope that that manufacturer designs the notebook to use the same MXM as the M15x. As if that's not enough you got to try and figure out a way to purchase that card because you can't just go to BestBuy and pick one up.

If all those stars align and you do manage to get a card the M15x may just not recognize the card and it just won't work.

Oh then there's the possibility the heatsink doesn't fit right on the card.

Someone on these forums managed to fit a 280M into it. So, yes, the 260M would probably fit.

That doesn't mean it won't cook itself, though. You'll get really high temps.

Since the 280M fits and doesn't cook too badly (max is around 100 deg. C... not good, but not death...), so if you were to get any of the other 200M series chips, they should fit and be fine, as long as you use the 8800M GTX/9800M GT cooler with them.

everyone is looking at the 260M to be a perfect match for the m15x, since it shouldn't overheat as much as the 280, and should be significantly faster than the 9800M GT.

but the 280M does fit and work.

that's up to the independent OEMs. it's just a matter of finding one with the same style of slot as the M15x, namely the MXM III.

MXM III is pretty common, so there shouldn't be too much of a problem, but not too many hardware vendors are selling such cards directly to customers... and that's probably the biggest hurdle to overcome at this point.

well i think the new CPU's could be either mxm 3.0 or 2.1

since they are targeted at mainstream and high end it could be mxm 2.0 but since they are new nvidia might shift over to 3.0 who knows

these will more then likly have a new tag for the card and if the bios won't recognize them .... but its worth a try
