Will the rubberized texture eventually fade?

I've had the M14x R2 for a couple of weeks now and by far my favourite part about it is the rubberized texture at the palm rests. It just feels so good while gaming.

BUT, usually a good thing doesn't stay that way forever. Anyone here game a fair amount know whether or not the rubberized nature of the laptops eventually starts to wear out? And if so, does it start to look, y'know, ugly?

Its very rare that it will or it will never happen, I only saw one case of this problem but dell fixed it right away. I had the M17x R3 for 8 months and no signs of wear looks new.

I got a R1, and i had it for 13 month now, no rubberised wear out or whatsoever, and I also game on the laptop for a large and fair amount of time with it (200hrs on Skyrim :p), at a glance my laptop look just like a new one.

Alright guys, thanks for the answer. I plan to do a lot of gaming on this thing and I'd hate to eventually have some kind of faded spot beside the track pad.

My four year old M17-R1 has the same soft touch finish and it has not faded at all.

So far I have no issues with the Soft Touch surface on the palm rest. I like it. I am OCD about things, so I have a microfiber cloth folded into thirds that lays across the palm rest area. I use a Orochi Bluetooth mouse and the touchpad is disabled most of the time. My palm rest is always clean and looks brand new after a year of heavy daily use.

I use a very slightly damp microfibre cloth - no detergent. Buff any dampness off with a dry microfibre cloth. If its excessively dirty, I add one or two drops (and I mean drops, not splurges) of household washing up liquid, diluted in a big bowl of warm water....same process...tightly wrung out microfibre, dry off with microfibre.

If you guys lift your hands while gaming... no need to worry about the soft touch. Plus it saves your hands :D

If its the same rubberized texture that was on the m9750 then no, I had that thing and put it through a ton and NEVER lost the rubber feel.

I've been using mine for months of heavy usage and it looks new.

I'm very meticulous with my tech, though and like Mr. Fox, I'm OCD about wear/cleaning.

Just how OCD am I? I've never closed the lid without a microfiber screen protector present since ownership and every night I wrap the entire laptop in a protective environment to prevent dust while I sleep - is just an example :p

I had the soft-touch paint on my m11x peeling on all corners.
I called Dell and they replaced the case, but it was a royal pain because they kept bringing the R2 casing which wasn't soft-touch... and the webcam didn't work.

But now with this case, it's peeling on one corner.
I really can't be stuffed going through the hassle of it again.

It really doesn't matter though. I don't plan to ever sell my m11x, m15x probably to get a desktop (don't have space for a desktop, m15x is a desktop replacement), and when the m11x dies, I'll buy a new one or parts. I love it... unless there's something very similar to it.

I but it in the Orion neoprene case to travel.

Thing we must all understand though is that things wear down. No point being anally retentive when it comes to using your items, wear and tear just proves you use it and love it...

The only reason I had the casing replaced was because it was peeling only after like 2 months...

No stab Voodooi/Mr.Fox, just saying wear doesn't bother me, but I still do try and take care of my belongings... I worked hard to buy these, so I want them to last.
