If you take a look, the AW screen size is getting bigger and bigger. Does everyone think it will get to a XPS M2010 level, or maybe level off at 17/18?

    Just curious what everyone thinks...

I'd tend to think it'll level off at 18". There's virtually no point in going bigger these days other than screen size. They couldn't fit more GPUs in (unless they developed 3/4 card SLi/XFire for notebooks) and you'd still have the one processor.

Basically put I think if you wanted anything bigger than 18", a desktop would be more suitable. Something bigger than that is just not portable.

I agree. m18x is already pushing the boundaries of portable. 20in monsters are cool and all, but not worth it from a hardware point of view, and you'd need a special case or custom backpack to move that behemoth around

Nothing bigger is on AWs roadmap.

    For now... :p

We didn't think they would come out with a m18 (from what I remember) , and they did :)

You have to remember, humans aren't going to get bigger and taller anytime soon. Our average height isn't going to suddenly change just because we want bigger screens on our laptops. Laptops have to suit our needs, not the other way around. 18 inches is probably the physical limit that notebook manufacturers are going to make. 19" and above is going to be way too inconvenient for the average human being to carry around.

Another thing to note is that Alienware isn't the first to offer an 18" laptop, because Toshiba already offers an 18.5" Qosmio gaming laptop. So there's nothing really revolutionary about Alienware offering an 18" laptop.

Also, Dell basically divided their M17x R2 successor into 2 categories: M17x R3 and M18x. The M17x R3 is a lighter version (single GPU, non-aluminum) of the M17x R2, while the M18x is actually the "true" successor to the M17x R2 because it maintains the same weight, and also brings back the dual-GPU and aluminum chassis. So, technically they really didn't create a "bigger" laptop by releasing the M18x.

And as soon as the R3 came out we ALL said that the M18x would be out with dual GPUs and were right on that guess
