    As the name says, the latest build, version 10159 can not run or install XTU.

    When you go to run it, it says another program that has performance control is already running.

    When you go to install it, it says you do not have sufficient privileges to install system services.

    Question is, why is this happening, is it deliberate from INTEL, or Alienware/Dell or what ?

    The previous Windows 10 versions worked.

    Intel's response so far has been to tell people they are not using Extreme cpu's, however, I am on an extreme cpu with the standard unlocked system bios, and it still does not work.

    Guess just another way for people to screw us Alienware users over.

    Yup, I'm expecting Windows 10 to totally be a digital enema for performance enthusiasts. They tried to mess everything up and only partially succeeded with Windows 8.X.X, but this is their second wind.

    I'm also waiting to see what the Redmond Nazis do to stuff up our GPUs. I won't be surprised if NVIDIA Inspector, EVGA PrecisionX, MSI Afterburner and similar utilities are blacklisted under Windows 10. They view themselves as God and have become a true legend in their own minds, so I will put nothing past them. They're a waste of human DNA.

    wait, however, now that we can not overclock AT ALL.. my default performance is much higher. My default now vs my Default in windows 7 (with Optimus).

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/7611523?

    Check out the performance drop. The CPU can only be touched in system bios, i have it set to 4.0Ghz all 4 cores, and selected the usual OC 3 option for everything else, anyways...
    My Combined score is waaay down, and so is my CPU score, which should be above 10,000 now its around 3,000
    I should be considered a HIGH END gaming machine. Instead, I'm down 2-3000 points from usual. So, gaming has suffered roughly a 25% loss of performance thanks to latest windows 10 update.
    I do not know what it has done to stop the CPU from working properly, but its horrible in anything that requires CPU now, I checked all settings too.

    That's why I quit participating in the Windows OS X Preview. It was too discouraging. Windows 8.X cripples CPU performance compared to Windows 7 and Windows OS X crippled it even further. After seeing no improvement by the third or fourth build, I just decided not to expose myself to the trash any more and just wait to see if the finished product is a botched up mess. Since we are so close to RTM, probably will be.

    That physics score makes me want to puke.

    Makes no sense, does it ! I am using an i7-3940XM. This is an Extreme Cpu, only a single generation ago ! WHY IS IT BEING NERFED!!!

    MAN , DO ALIENWARES SUCK!
    Okay this one is not the Alienware so much as Microsoft.

    I actually still love my Alienware, even though it is a HUGE pain in the ass with new software 99.99% of the time.

    I was getting over 10,000 physic scores with the SAME CPU settings, in windows 7.

    Know what, i think i know a trick to fix it, now that I've got my blood pumping....I will be back hopefully with an update / fix.

    I feel like Windows is trying to become more like Mac OS X with this stupid UI, limitation, control, EFI/UEFI, etc.
    Windows 7 has become the new XP. It will get extended support past 2020 I guarantee it unless MS decides to do something to break our computers through an update.

    They already do that all the time, including Windows 7. That's why I have Windows Update disabled in Group Policy. The only updates my OS gets to have are those I choose to apply manually. With that functionality removed in the Home "noob" Edition of Windows OS X, I will never install it. If rumors about Windows OS X are accurate, even the old registry hack to kill Windows Updates won't work any more. If and when I choose to allow the new Nazi OS to be installed on my systems it will be the Professional version only so I can disable it. It's digital cancer, not security. With Windows Updates disabled, Windows 7 is the most stable operating system in the company's history.

    Yeah, you need pro now, to schedule updates, otherwise it does it for you, like WTF?!? Pay to Work ? isn't it supposed to be Pay to Win ? bah ! Silly MS.

    This is for certain, i know this, because I have been running around for the last 2 years migrating thousands of desktops for Bank of Montreal, and Ford Canada, all to windows 7. I know others have done the cross over too.
    The projects were also supplied in part by DELL, for warranty and services, we were all just CompuCom contractors, but they were getting like 10 year packages. So, 2025 support ?

    Probably won't go for Pro either. Will likely shoot for Enterprise so I can completely shut down updates rather than "schedule" them. Or, to fully exploit the no-cost/no-commitment offer I may do like I have with Windows 8.1 and just make Windoze OS X my "disposable" OS in a dual boot system. I can use it for specific things where it might do better (for example, with Windows 8.1 the only thing it is useful for is Fire Strike). The rest of the time it boots Windows 7 by default and Windoze OS X is completely ignored. I'd like to move away from dual-booting, but I need an OS capable of replacing Windows 7 in a manner that is to my complete satisfaction. 8.1 could not do it, and from everything I am seeing so far, Windoze OS X won't be able to do that for me. It looks like it's not even good enough to replace Windows 8.1 as my "disposable" OS at this point.

    After some testing, I found a solution for Windows 10 Build 10240 TDRs w/ v353.49 & v353.50, including XTU permission error.

    *7-Zip* "Extract to" desktop.

    • First install/enable .NET 3.5 -> Plug in the USB drive with Windows 10 installation files.
      cmd (Admin) -> replace "X" w/ the proper drive letter.
      Code:
      DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:X:\sources\sxs

    • 'F8' Boot options 'Safe Mode' - 'Disable driver Signing'
      cmd (Admin)
      Code:
      bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
      -> Reboot

    • Install Intel Chipset Drivers v10.0.27.
      cmd (Admin)
      Code:
      cd C:\Users\username\Desktop\Chipset_v10.0.27\SetupChipset.exe
      -> Reboot

    • Intel MEI v11.0.0.1157.
      cmd (Admin)
      Code:
      cd C:\Users\username\Desktop\Intel MEI_v11.0.0.1157\MEISetup.exe
      -> Reboot -> F8 'Disable Driver Signature Enforcement'.

    • Install DirectX SDK (June 2010) *Steam CommonRedist* -> Visual C++ both 32-bit & 64-bit: 12.0, 11.0, 10.0, 9.0 from HERE

    • Install XTU -> XTU-Setup-exe.exe right click "Run as Administrator".
      -> Reboot

    • F8 'Safe Mode' uninstall current drivers -> DDU "Clean & shutdown" option.

    • F8 -> 'DSE'.

    • Extracted NV driver package -> copy/overwrite nvcvwu.inf -> run setup.exe

      Capture25.PNG

      -> Reboot -> F8 'DSE'

    • Install AW OSD, extract w/ 7-Zip -> M18xR2/M17xR4_v0.32.0.8C_A00.EXE
      -> Alienware 18/17_v0.33.0.11C_A01.EXE
      cmd (Admin) e.g. M17xR4
      Code:
      cd C:\Users\username\Desktop\Application_N9PMP_WN_0.32.0.8C_A00\setup.exe
      -> Reboot

      Edit: M18xR2/M17xR4 Compal v1.0.0.4 Win10 driver (below), no need to install OSD. Use have disk method.

    @j95 - awesome tips... thanks.

    Having to right-click and select "Run as Administrator" when you are already an Administrator really sucks. This should not be necessary for any application. It's unfortunate that it is.

    @j95 - yes, I saw that information before. It may have even been from one of your post, but I don't remember now. Thanks for the sharing the link. I had totally forgotten about it.

    That's just WAY TOO MUCH hassle to deal with in order to block Windows Updates one at a time. Really need a way to turn off Windows Updates globally before I will be able to take Windows 10 seriously.

    I installed Windows 10 on the M18xR2 this morning and this afternoon it started 8 beeps, dog gone it. Thought it was GPU related, but it turns out the LCD panel is bad. Tried two LVDS cables. Neither fixed it. Swapped the display off the M18xR1 and that immediately fixed the problem on the R2. Put the M18xR2 display on the M18xR1 and now it has 8 beeps. No backlight. :vbfrown:

    Dear Mr.Fox, I would like to kindly ask you if you could tell me what to adjust in the bios of my gtx 880m, I would like to stop it from throttling or get at least 800-900mhz out of it, heat is not an issue since both cpu and gpu tops at 70c. I tried to make a custom bios but all I did was bricking the gpu or getting even lower core mhz than before. As far as I understand i have to change something in the power table, but I couldn't find a clear explanation for the 8 columns. I know its boring but this would really help me out, I got this laptop as a gift and i don't want to sell it cuz of the nonsense throttling.
