AW fixed the memory leaks with the command center and with the dell driver released a week or so ago, all drivers work in win7 x64

    Thanks for the post Ryujin.
If you're looking for a straight forward answer, no, the m17x isn't completely compatible. However, you are able to install and use Windows 7 with several glitches and broken features.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Just wondering GabeZ, are you updating the front page of your thread when new, compatible drivers become available?

Because once I get my machine, I was thinking I'd check your thread right away to see if I should install the Windows 7 RC, or if the drivers arent available, wait till they are.

    Hi Scytus,
I'll be updating my thread as I find fixes for all the issues that Windows 7 is having. It was just last week that I made my second attempt at getting Windows 7 to run everything on this computer. Unfortunately, there's still a big issue with command center as well as the chipset.
As for the as you're experiences with a SSD Moo, we might be able to merge our experience on the same thread so that everyone can look in one spot for solutions.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

As has been said m17x is not 100% on Windows 7 there are still video/chipset driver issues and the Alienware Command Center can only use AlienFX and the Touch portion.

Win7 is optimized for SSD in the OS and registry ..... All tweaks are already done ...straight from the install. So really there is nothing to do but use it :D

not necessarily, win7 uses the Trim command set but the ssd drive firmware itself has to support Trim also. Win7 basically will send a message to the harddrive asking for it's rpm speed and if it gets a 0 back it will turn off features such as superfetch, prefetch, defrag etc, but this only happens if the device is TRIM capable which I know the samsung 256 ssd does not. as i had to still manually do the edits myself in win 7 or use the ssdtweak.exe program on guru3d.

yes the vertex drives support the trim commands, the ones that come with the M17x do not, it will take a firmware upgrade for them to do so and i believe i read where samsung does not plan to do so for their current models already in production.

also the programd "SSDTweaker" will do all the edits in one click :)
