    Hi everyone,

Having just spent the better part of a week trying to get around the CD/DVD device drivers missing on custom install known issue and finally cracking it last night, I've come across another stumbling block with my optical drive.

FYI at this point - system is a first generation M17x (IE bought a year and 4 months ago so not the new design)

It appears Win 7 (64 bit) is flat out refusing to recognize it (I have tried disabling integrity checks / dont appear to have upperfilters etc in my registry) and the drivers for the optiarc AD7590-A dvd drive are all but impossible to find.

This is compounded by later firmware updates which I have been able to find not being compatible with the OEM drive I have which was obviously provided by Alienware.

There are also no drivers / fixes on either the Alienware or the Dell website for this drive and I havent been able to find any threads on here detailing any solutions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Will

Thanks for the reply, but part of the problem is that after a clean install of Windows 7, the drive is not even recognized in the device manager so unless I'm mis-understanding what you're saying this won't be possible?

As far as Win7 is concerned at the current state it doesnt exist.

    Cheers.
