Hi guys, this forum has given me so much in the past, figured it's about time I give something back. So I was trying out the breed theme with alienguise yesterday and even though I wasn't keen on it (deleted after 2 mins) I did like that little animation that came up when you apply the theme, figured that would make a great splash screen, so messed around last night and came up with this.
First things first, I am in no way responsible if this goes wrong, if you don't want to try it, move on. I've had no problems using win7bootupdater and have applied loads of splash screens, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit it's been tested on this, I haven't tried it on any other version but can't see there being a problem. Ok so here goes.
Changes in v1.1
1. No jagged edges on alienhead
2. Text slightly clearer
3. Alienhead slightly wider (looked at alienhead on my lid and realised)

2. Under animation > Drop down list > Select "Animation"
3. Browse to whatever color splash you want folder
4. click "select folder"
5. If you don't want any windows text on splash screen go to "count" drop down menu and choose "none"
6. Click "apply" and you should see " Successfully updated the boot animation and text!"
7. Restart and test it out.
Hope you enjoy it.

Just tried this on my M17x R3, works great. Its a shame alienware did not implement something like this. Thanks for cooking this up for us!
-
Just realized I have to select the folder, not the bmp...

Plus rep for you, man. This is awesome!
Can't wait until you post the "better quality" animations. The ones you posted were pretty sweet already! -
Yes sir, nice work!

You just made my M11x, 7.25% more cooler than it already is, awesome splash screen for an awesome machine.

+1. Just installed. Now all I need is the computer to say "Alienware" while it boots using the Resident Evil voice from the intro to the game. That would be AWESOME!

As promised v1.1 is up

1.1 is a hit, nice and clear now!
Are you able to add a font type selector? I would love to Add some Alienkarat font text on this screen. -
wow that's some preatty awsome stuf
-
WAY AWESOME!!!
-
Glad you guys like it
About the alienkarat font, let me have a little think about it. It would have to be added to all 105 frames, in the same place and it won't be animated, but guessing it can be done. What would you like the text to say? -
I am referring to the messages (message 1/message 2) That way we can type what ever we like. -
This is saweeeeet. Thanks dude.
-
Thanks. I've had my M11x two days and am enjoying your splash screen.
-
Have tried your splash screen.. thanks a bunch +1 rep

As I've said before, these are awesome. A suggestion for 1.2: Can you make the alienhead metallic, like the one on the back of the laptop? White looks good against the black background, but a metallic one would be perfect. The eyes glowing in the chosen color would look great with this.
-
Glad you guys like these, just started a new job so a little busy but will start working on 1.2 when I have a chance.
-
Will 1.2 include the ability to modify the Message 1-2 font?

+rep! Great idea and wonderful execution!
As he did not write the bootupdater (that's been around for ages) and can't make that do anything special. -

See my post, buddy

Spoke to the creator of the bootupdater and HE actually figured out how to change the font, should have a bit of free time this week, he sent me instructions and will see if I can change the message1/message2 font to alienkarat.
Will post instructions the moment it's ready. -

Awesome stuff.. was a little afraid to do it first, but too cool to miss..
Works great! Waiting for more animations -
Messed up my windows. Luckily Windows Repair was able to fix it.
I think maybe an incompatibility witht this programm and non-english windows-versions? -
um, maybe specific[/I] non-english version? I run it on my sister's m11xr2, french windows.. worked out well.

Gave it a go last night and no luck, I'm probably doing something wrong. Found the line searching for the hex value, changed it and restarted. Startup repair kicked in and shot me back to default, here are the instructions I received.
Make sure you run the Win7BootUpdater first, changing everything you want besides the font face
Check and rename the font file:
Find the font you want to use within the C:\Windows\Fonts folder
Right click the font and choose "Properties"
Make sure the location is C:\Windows\Fonts (some are just symbolically linked there)
Make sure the file name ends in TTF, although OTF files may work as well but I haven't tested them (there is an online converter at Online Font Converter)
Rename (or make sure) that the file name is at most 11 characters long including the extension
Edit winload.exe:
Open C:\Windows\System32\winload.exe in a hex editor and find the string "\fonts\segoeui.ttf" in Unicode, which is the following in hex:
5C 00 66 00 6F 00 6E 00 74 00 73 00 5C 00 73 00 65 00 67 00 6F 00 65 00 75 00 69 00 2E 00 74 00 74 00 66 00 00 00
This is going to be somewhere around the offset 400,000-550,000 depending on the version of the file and if it is 32 or 64 bit
Replace the file name in the found string with the new font name. If the new name is shorter then fill in the extra space with 00.
Update the checksum of the file, you can do this with a tool on my site: Coder for Life - Project - Utilities
You can repeat the above 3 steps for the winresume.exe file, the string is located around the offset 300,000-450,000
