    Hi

I have just a question please about windows 7 bios, the thing is I want to install windows 7 on my Alienware m17x, so forthis I have to format my hardrive and install windows 7 with all the windows 7 drivers. I just want to know please if I install the windows 7 bios for my Alienware, do I have to make some settings after this installation in my bios? Usually I dont use any settings in my bios, I dont overclock my chip or something, so can I leave my bios in the default settings? And my another question is please, if I ever want to go back to vista , does maybe anybody knows if my Alienrespawn vista contains, a vista bios, or do I have to download therefor a vista bios for my Alienware?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

    See u!

If you have 2 hard drives in RAID, you'll have to re-enable the settings for it in the BIOS

There is no such thing as a Vista BIOS and Win 7 BIOS, BIOS is independent of the Operating system you install. So just install the latest BIOS version A02 for your m17x if it is not already so.

BIOS = Basic Input Output System

The BIOS is the PRE-OS boot interface/controller that handles the bare bones level of UI for the system Hardware.

So yes, you need a BIOS. =P

    James,

All of the drivers can be located HERE (Dell's driver support page). The page I believe loads the list for Vista 64. If you have Windows 7 installed, just change it via the pulldown menu on the page.

Also, if you have RAID, be sure to follow the advice in Post#2 above.

If you decide to switch to Vista, then its not necessary to change the BIOS as was mentioned previously. If you run into any driver related issues under Windows 7, post in the M17x and Windows 7 thread. Another thread which contains links to several fixes for common issues/questions is the M17x General Info Sticky (reference section).

    Enjoy~!

Yeah - that is correct. Again, the BIOS version is fine. Do not confuse it as only being compatible with Vista or Windows 7 or Windows XP for that matter. ;)
